An interesting comparison! Based on taxes and the revenues required, to keep running a manufacturing business a huge amount of investment is needed and after producing you must have a means to sell the products in the market too in short, a manufacturer requires a trader to buy his goods.
If you are looking for a long term investment I thing then manufacturing and trading will hand in hand. The reason being to support your manufacturing business at certain point of time you will feel the need of setting up a trading department for you business. However in case of small invesment trading can be more fruitful.
