I was hoping for some advice, I'm weighing up the option between paying an agency to do SEO for me or just do Google Adwords to grow my business.

I have run campaigns before on Google adwords where I've spend close to £300 a month and I've got sales from it (although I haven't really done conversion analysis to see how much business I got out of it). I tend to get a bit annoyed with the cost of Adwords and shut it down because the bills can go out of hand a bit.

I like the idea of getting SEO done, but it seems like a lot more expensive. An agency based here in the UK who specialises in whitehat quoted me £1000 a month for SEO for a 12 month contract. He promised page 1 listing for all my keywords after 12 months.

I am already on page 1 for a lot of keywords, at the bottom somwhere and it gets me hardly any visitors. So the page 1 guarantee is meaningless.

I was thinking, for the £12,000 budget for SEO. If I just spend that all on Google Adwords. I'd get much more traffic and business than the SEO.

I am beginning to wonder whether SEO is a waste of time and money, and more expensive than Google Adwords.

That was your first mistake. If you do the analysis and really focus your keywords > Advert > landing page you can get high conversions.
    He is lying

Do this course. It will open your eyes: https://www.freshbananas.co.uk/

After this experience you can decide which service is good for you. Another thing is no body can promise you to provide 1st rank within 6 month or in 1 year, because Google algorithms timely change.

I think you misread my comment, he didn't promise 1st position, he promised 1st page i.e. top10.

Since we're averaging 9/10 anyway it would be a walk in the park to get them to rank on page 1 for all 50 longtails.

PPC seems to be a cost of sale that my busines brain wants to reduce as much as possible. SEO is more of an investment.

I will look into the fresh bananas website, the challenge for me was that it is quite difficult to track sales. It's a consulting service, I get the lead and then there's a lot of backwards and forwards. Some clients enquire about services and then come through 3-4 months later to go ahead. So it's quite difficult to attribute sales to the initial event that led them onto the website.

This is such a nice post. Well, in my view, the PPC is better than SEO because the PPC works very fast to get good traffic on a website and in the other hand the SEO takes time.
