anything less than 7 hours and my day is not productive at all.....even with coffee shots...but there is also a case of too much sleep...if i sleep more than 10 hours...then this also has a negative effect as personally i feel groggy and down for the day....

Depends what your job is or how active you are. I'd recommend between 5 and 9 hours.

A large, decades long, population study with solid data, The renown Alameda County Study, found that 7-8 hours of sleep is "optimal" for adults.

That is of course population data, giving us a general idea, but not telling that it's optimal for each and every individual.

surely it is not how long you are sleeping but how long one is in deep sleep.........as studies show it is when we are in deep sleep that we find ourselves nice and relaxed...

I feel 8 hours is more than enough but some times if you take afternoon nap for half an hours it makes you feel relaxed. But I know for many afternoon nap is not possible.

I believe 7 to 8 hours of sleep is necessary for anyone. Sleeping more can hamper your body.

I keep hearing 8 hours. I have 3 young kids so am lucky if I get six (LOL)... one problem is that if you don't get enough sleep you naturally try to boost energy by eating more and therefore put on weight! Anyone got any secret formulas for a good night's sleep? M.

I dont think there are any preset requirements for the amount of sleep. Being a doctor, we usually recommend 6 sleeping hours for adults and 8 sleeping hours for children which is mainly to satisfy the heavy metabolic tiredness that the body experiences. However, the amount of sleeping hours is set by the body's circadian rhythm, more importantly, by a hormone released from the pineal body of a human. As long as your sleeping time is sufficient for you body to relax and start a new fresh day, the body is fine. We recommend sleeping hours only when such normal body functions fail and your health shows deterring vital parameters.

We need at least 8 hours per day to sleep so you can spend 6 hours to sleep at night and the rest 2 hours within the day like a short nap at noon. Don't underestimate your sleep, it is critical.

Most doctors I've heard recommend eight hours for adults and much longer than eight hours for children?
