SIX TIPS TO HELP YOU BUILD A POSITIVE SAFETY CULTURE Recently, the term “workplace culture” has become very trendy. More than just a buzzword, workplace culture refers to the way things are done at your workplace. Rather than referring to your company’s specific safety policy and program, the concept of safety culture is encapsulated by the mindsets, attitudes, and behaviors of workers, supervisors, managers, and owners toward safety in the workplace. Positive safety culture in the workplace is absolutely a vital part of a successful and effective health and safety program.

STRONG AND POSITIVE SAFETY CULTURE IN YOUR WORKPLACE
    1. Communicate
    2. Provide Training
    3. Lead by Example
    4. Develop and Implement a Positive Reporting Process
    5. Involve Workers
    6. Put your JHSC into Action

Appeal to group interests rather than self-interest. Praise rather than criticise. Celebrate success rather than focus on failures. Train, motivate and encourage. Build trust and create a sense of community amongst colleagues.
