What are your views on merging two or more forums into one?
If the forum is inter relate, basically no harm to merge it. E.g. a seo forum, merge with web design forum. If the forum is totally none relate, it will loss their audience, because reader does not get relevant sharing.
It depends on the forums. If one or both of the forums are old and not very active then there is probably not much harm in merging them. However, if both forums are active and members know each other, in other words there is a sense of community merging them can sometimes damage that and drive away members.
I'd agree. I considered merging my forum when I owned it, but decided against it as I didn't to alienate any members.
If the merging of both forums wasn't going to harm the activity and member base in anyway, I couldn't see why the merge wouldn't go smooth. However, you would have to take into account that some members may have people they 'dislike' on the other forum, and you really wouldn't want any kind of atmosphere after the merge. You especially wouldn't want to start banning people, which would all be down to the merge.
Why would banning all be down to the merge?
Most likely arguments would start arising etc.
That's what I do to a lot of my forums. I grow them separately then merge them when they're big and active. I also just buy forums to merge into my existing forums. I like doing it because it's more active and bigger as a whole. As long as you notify all members of the merge before the merge you should be okay. Don't just spring it on them.
