It depends. If you have enough money, the best is PPC. SEO is also great because you can generate free traffic as long as you done it correctly.

It depends on the need and requirements of the website. If there is no urgent need to get web traffic on the website and the webmaster wants organic traffic then the SEO can be used. If there is an allocated budget and an urgent need for traffic on the website the PPC method comes handy.

Both of these answers are highly simplified, for a question that has no simple answer. As asher said, it depends on the needs of the website. But then, how does one define "urgent need"? Someone may think they have an urgent need, but what they have is an urgent want. They somehow have gotten the idea into their head that they can set up a website today, and have traffic in a few days. You can do this with PPC, but it has the same problem as klaythomson mentioned with SEO. Neither of these will help you if you don't do them properly. With both, you have to make sure you are pursuing the right keywords. Pursuing the right keywords may not seem crucial with PPC, because if no one clicks on your ad, you don't pay. But if you're pursuing the wrong keywords, someone who is not interested in your website, but thinks you have what they need because of the keyword, will click on your ad - and you have to pay for it.
One advantage of PPC is you can stop and start your campaigns whenever you want. So, if you're getting too much traffic, you can stop your campaign temporarily. This is also good for seasonal items, like pool supplies or Christmas decorations. You can stop your campaign in the months when no one is buying your product. Klaythomson referred to traffic from SEO as "free traffic as long it is done correctly". That last part is very important. If you're going to do your SEO yourself, it's not as easy as some people will lead you to believe. There is a lot of technical knowledge in the optimization of the website, and you can very easily mess it up if you don't know what you're doing. Even the marketing part has pitfalls, as it is not as easy as writing an article and submitting it somewhere to let them send it out to a bunch of websites that publish it. You have to know the best places to submit articles, and you have to be involved in social networking as well.
So, there is no definite answer to a general question like yours. But, knowing more about a particular situation will allow us to provide an answer for that situation, and only for that situation. What works for one may not work for another.

It depends about what you want if you want instant traffic and have money to spent on your business then you have to go through with PPC. It Provides you a Good results. And if you looking for long term result then you need to go through SEO. SEO will not provide instant result you have to wait for some time to get good results. After some time you get relevant search and traffic to your website for a long term. It's organic and valuable for your business for a long term.

It depend on you what you wants actually PPC is a pay per click give instant result in major search engine like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. All results coming within time and you gain more traffic and visitor to your site. Whereas SEO is slow or organic process where you did same thing that is promotion but you wait for long time. Whenever the results are coming they is available for long period of time.

SEO is good if it is done good. You need to know at least the basics on how to do it, because if it's done the wrong way, it can affect your site's reputation the negatively..

If you want fast results then ppc is good otherwise you can rely on seo. PPC requires paid campaign and it will be better for you if could spend money on it. Seo takes 4 to 5 months and a lot of dedication to it.
