Please forgive me if this question is too vague. I'm mostly looking for a reccomendations with positive feedback.
We are looking for an agency who is especially good at driving traffic to websites. Our target audience is mostly older females, older males, baby boomers & seniors & people who gamble. Our budget is around $250k for now.

I've just been given this research task and it's like looking for a grocery store, they are everywhere.
Our business is auctions, and we are looking to go online.

Welcome to our Business Forum Judy620. You could advertise your requirements in our Member Ads and Marketplace section.

An important step in choosing the right supplier is to specify your requirements for the project. We previously had a discussion on a related topic that you might find very helpful as regards finding the best agency for the job - PR companies - how to select one for your business?

    Hi,

Hiring a SEO company these days is really very tough for website owners, as their are a lot of SEO professionals and SEO companies around. Its important to dive deeper into each companys level of experience, how their process works, and whether their process has been successful.

    Thanks

It is important that you out source your online business to someone who is experienced. Before you hand over your job to someone, make sure they have an impressive record & their past performances. Ask them questions, ask them for estimations, ask them for ideas.

Choosing right SEO who is reasonable, reliable, tested and trusted is very difficult. It is always advisable to go to SEO who has good track record.

You can try some of the webmasters forums, where you can have the options.

so far, you've been getting very good advice, and you're right about the large numbers of internet marketing companies. There are several of them out there that don't get the job done, so it's important to check them out thoroughly. One thing to find out is, how is there own site ranked - if they can't get their own site ranked, can they do it for you. Also make sure you ask about their methods. Many use questionable techniques that are more likely to do more harm than good. Third, you have the budget to hire a professional, so don't look primarily at price. Usually, if someone has a cheaper price, there's a reason - and it's not good. On the other hand, a higher price doesn't necessarily mean better service - that's why the other two questions are very important.
You mentioned you "are looking to go online". Does that mean you do not have a website yet, and need someone to design one? That brings up another area to look at. A website design firm that offers marketing as part of the design package is probably not going to do the best job. On the other hand, a company that has both a website design department, and a website marketing department, would do a better job because the two departments can talk to each other, and some of the optimization can be done at the same time as design, so that the marketing people don't have to "fix" what the design people did before starting a marketing program.
I hope the above makes your job easier, and not harder. If I can be of any further assistance, let me know.

Thank you all so much. All of this information is very helpful to me. I'm still searching around, but having the advice here is making it easier to pin down exactly what I want to get from any marketers trying to get my business.

I would advise you to outsource your project through freelancing sites so that you can have multiple options to choose the best

Best place to advertise your product online is local search. Google is getting famous for its local searches. Or else you can visit invox dot com where you can have solutions to talk to your customers directly from anywhere. No need of missing any call nor any messages comes through online.

Create your product pages at google products or any product based directories to get more famous.

I would respectfully disagree that local searches are the best for Judy's situation. Online auction sites can get traffic from all over the country, if not the world. On the other hand, "online auctions" may to be too competitive to start with, although the budget amount is quite high, so she may be able to go for some of the more competitive phrases. I also wonder why you would recommend invox.com, when the question concerned internet marketiong, not business phone systems.
Finally, rather than create product pages on Google or in directories, she might want to use a social media campaign to raise awareness of her site, and possibly offer deals for those who, for example, become Facebook "friends". Combining a social media campaign with a properly run SEO campaign would be the best solution for what she needs.

I'll respectfully disagree here, seeing as Joseph beat me to the other.

While freelancing sites can provide good results, you're far better extending your search to include all available options. Many (I'd go as far as to say the vast majority) of the best SEM companies/experts won't have the time or inclination to crawl through freelancing sites as they're already too busy. As a first stop, try and get personal recommendations from trusted sources. Speaking with your extended network; friends, family, business associates, colleagues, etc. you'd be surprised at just how much personal experience they may be able to provide. If you can gain the information first hand, from someone with direct experience, you can be more confident in your decision.

Google provide a (very brief) guide on the type of questions to ask and things to consider when approaching an SEO firm. It only scratches the surface, but no harm in taking a quick look.

Well, I agree with you most *Respectfully*, but if you do not have much budget and cannot an expensive seo company than free lancing sites will be a good option I guess

    Hi Judy,

It's good you're looking for an SEO prior to building your website because their advice will be valuable as your design develops.

SEOMoz has a directory with some good SEO's, but you'll also want a firm that has experience with social media.

Someone here mentioned online auctions. You might have luck over at elance.com -- there is a section for SEO there. You want to be certain that you hire an ethical SEO company though. Research the firm that you're looking into around the web and see what kind of presence they have in the field.

Once the site is up and running you may also want to venture into PPC to get some immediate traffic and to test keyword phrases for conversions.

Let us know how it goes in your search - it sounds like an exciting project!

With a healthy budget like that, they have plenty of flexibility to work with. They need to ensure they get the best value for money, not focus on the lowest cost.

You could try Pepper Square. They provide good and affordable services in SEO as well as SMO. I have worked with them and am very much satisfied with the result.

I checked out Pepper Square when I saw your post recommending them in another thread. Both you and Judy620 can check out what I found here
    .

@Judy620: You've been searching for a few months now. How is the search going? Did you find anyone? If so, how satisfied are you with their services?
