What do you mean by a "theme" in this instance 50Cent, are you referring to a design template or something else?

Personally I would try to think of images that would be associated with that theme. For example if it was a summer theme I would think of sunshine and clear blue skies, hence I would use bright blue and yellow colours.

You could also type the "theme name" in Google Images and grab some ideas from there.. just a thought.

    Good Luck.

Yes, I also used to look into my mind what should be there regrading the theme and make some research to get new ideas then merging both the sources.

I've read Tony Buzan's book on mind mapping and sometimes use the process for planning out a project or when looking at options when I have a decision to make. Do you feel that you will use mind mapping for design projects 50Cent?

This one is the "best answer." Checking out Google Images gives you an overall idea of your theme.
When you have the idea, you can make some drafts on a piece of paper before putting it on a Photoshop or similar software.

I will just start messing with the colors of what I would like to use first. I do all the other stuff like the text after the background is all finished.

sometimes use the method for designing out a task or when looking at choices when I have a conclusion to make. Do you seem that you will use brain mapping

Choose your colors based off of the theme, then you can make graphics in the same tones. It all comes back to what the theme is. Like Fergal said if it is a summer theme then use lots of light colors like blue and yellow and white.

I find thinking of the theme, then go to lots of graphics blogs and finding inspiration for what i could do, then look at some google images (but dont copy) then i make my idea.

    Hope this helps.

First of all decide what you want to call the Theme. You can choose the colors and fonts you want that complements the new wallpaper.
