Organic search engine listings are the main results users see when they do a Google search. The websites appearing in the organic listings appear because those sites are most relevant to the user’s keywords. Indeed, most of these sites appear in the top of the search engine results because the webmasters of these sites have used SEO tactics to ensure top rankings.
The paid (or “sponsored”) listings usually appear on the top, bottom and to the right of the regular organic listings. Usually these are pay per click (PPC) ads, which means the website owner only pays when someone clicks on his ad (as opposed to paying for impressions).
This isn’t an either/or game. Just because you do SEO doesn’t mean you can’t/shouldn’t use PPC and vice versa.
SEO is not free traffic, it takes time and/or money to get good organic rankings but in the long run it’s usually cheaper than PPC.

Paid listing is... well... paid. You need a budget for that to continue serving your links.
But on organic, you can do this without spending a single cent, as long as you know what to do. This is definitely suggested for all websites to have. And paid listing is only as optional thing, especially if you are selling some services or products.

Organic search result is the Web page listings that most closely match the user’s search query based on relevance. Also called “natural” search results, ranking high in the organic results is what seo is all about and paid result are basically advertisements — the Web site owners have paid to have their Web pages display for certain keyword so these listings show up when someone runs a search query containing those keywords.

word itself says the difference between paid and organic search listing :)

Paid means: Search engine will charge you for listing your website in their search engine (there are various paid listing option available like, CPC - cost per click, CPM - cost per thousand impression etc)

Organic listing: search engine will not charge you to list your website in their search listing (they list your website based on their search engine algorithms and quality of your website)

Your post needs more clarification and details. Why does organic mean better, and what is good about paid? Simply posting one sentence doesn't add much to the discussion - you need to add more details so anyone reading the post will understand how you came up with your original statement.

Paid listing is good but its damn expensive. So, always prefer to go the affordable way i.e. via organic listing.

Here we have two separate views, each one with a separate point of view. Sigma is correct, SEO is a long term process, where PPC can be stopped and started when necessary So PPC can be cheaper, since the website owner pays per click, and if you temporarily stop your campaign, you're not paying anything. On the other hand, as michael points out, when you are paying, PPC can be expensive. It depends on the CPC of the keyword phrases you are pursuing.
Another criteria to consider is that in PPC, every phrase you pursue has a cost per click, so if you have a large quantity of phrases, that can also be expensive. In SEO, however, if it is done correctly, you could begin to see what we call a "residual, collateral effect". As you start getting ranked for your chosen phrases, Google may start to notice you and decide to increase the ranking of one of the pages on your website for a phrase you are not pursuing. In effect, you are getting more than you paid for. I have seen some of our clients get ranked for dozens, in some cases hundreds, of phrases in addition to the ones we are pursuing on their behalf.
Of course, if you are doing it yourself, you may not be able to get the results a marketing firm can, so the benefits may not be as big. Either way, both PPC and SEO are an investment in your business, and if you make more than you invest, the investment is worth it.

How come organic is better than paid? Do you even know what's on the mind of those who are doing paid and organic?

SEO might involve time, but as long as you know how to do it, it will be cheaper, or best, free.

I treat SEO and PPC as transportation like cargo, bus, bicycle, car; each transport has unique feature. We shouldn't compare it and be smart choose the right transport for the right journey.

I think organic is better than paid because it is a slow natural build that prevails over time - paid stops as soon as you stop paying.

Paid Listings : Listings that search engines sell to advertisers to generate traffic. Ex. PPC and CPC

Organic Listings: Also known as natural listings, organic listings are webpage listings that appear on a Search Engine Results Page .

We can not compare both in terms of cost but if you think from long term prospect; SEO is cheaper than PPC for sure.

Yes, it depend on the situation. If someone need to travel from UK to Japan, the float would be take bus/taxi to UK Airport, then take flight Japan Airport, once depart the airport, continue with bus to nearest station or take cab again. If the person is running out of budget, he may walk more to reduce cab expenses.

Let say SEOMOZ have a SEO campaign on next month, while waiting viral promotion from social media and SEO, SEOMOZ may further promote the event through newspaper, magazine and PPC.

Organic is when you do SEO the natural way this includes Link Building.
Paid Search Listing is basically paying google to be on the top list.

You can notice it when searching in Google. Mostly there are 3 link in the first place (sometimes highlight with yellow color) that is paid search.
Those who are not highlighted is what you call organic.
