    What's the big difference between HTML and HTML5?

    HTML is a markup language that is used to build static (non interactive and nonanimated) webpages.
    XHTML is an xml markup language that mirrors HTML syntaxes.

    HTML5 is the latest revision of HTML containing much better support for media like video and audio tags.

    I am not much happy with this answer. Could your please late me know in depth.

    HTML5 is the fifth implementation of HTML and defines an HTML syntax that is compatible with HTML4 and XHTML1 documents published on the Web, but is not compatible with the more esoteric SGML features of HTML4, such as processing instructions and shorthand markup as these are not supported by most user agents. Documents using the HTML syntax are almost always served with the text/html media type.

    HTML5 does support for media like video and audio tags better.

    HTML5 also defines detailed parsing rules (including "error handling") for this syntax which are largely compatible with popular implementations. User agents must use these rules for resources that have the text/html media type. Here is an example document that conforms to the HTML syntax:

    <!doctype html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>Example document</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p>Example paragraph</p>
    </body>
    </html>

    The other syntax that can be used for HTML5 is XML. This syntax is compatible with XHTML1 documents and implementations. Documents using this syntax need to be served with an XML media type and elements need to be put in the http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml namespace following the rules set forth by the XML specifications. [XML]

    Below is an example document that conforms to the XML syntax of HTML5. Note that XML documents must be served with an XML media type such as application/xhtml+xml or application/xml.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <title>Example document</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p>Example paragraph</p>
    </body>
    </html>

    Personally I don't care what version I'm using, as long as it does what I want it to :)

    HTML5 is the latest revision of HTML containing much better support for media like video and audio tags.
    audio and video has internal specifications and has separate tags ie <audio> and <video>.

    sujeetets got it right.

    also note that HTML5 essentially allows your site to be more dynamic without having to use flash and other programs that slow down your site speed.

    The main difference between HTML5 and HTML is the consistent and define error handling. HTML5 has got some advance features such as to develop the ability of the browser to be an application platform, via HTML, CSS, and Javascript whereas HTML is old version so it don't have ability to develop the Website via CSS and Javascript. HTML5 is the latest revision of HTML.

    HTML5 introduces a number of new elements and attributes that reflect typical usage on modern websites.
    Some of them are semantic replacements for common uses of generic
    block (<div>) and inline (<span>) elements,
    for example <nav> (website navigation block),
    <footer> (usually referring to bottom of web page or to last lines of HTML code),
    or <audio> and <video> instead of <object>.[31][32][33] Some deprecated elements from HTML 4.01 have been dropped,
    including purely presentational elements such as <font> and <center>, whose effects are achieved using Cascading Style Sheets.
    There is also a renewed emphasis on the importance of DOM scripting (e.g., JavaScript) in Web behavior.
    The HTML5 syntax is no longer based on SGML[34][35] despite the similarity of its markup.
    It has, however, been designed to be backward compatible with common parsing of older versions of HTML.
    It comes with a new introductory line that looks like an SGML document type declaration, <!DOCTYPE html>, which triggers the standards-compliant rendering mode.[36] As of 5 January 2009, HTML5 also includes Web Forms 2.0, a previously separate WHATWG specification.
