Some analysts and vendors define cloud computing narrowly as an updated version of utility computing: basically virtual servers available over the Internet. Others go very broad, arguing anything you consume outside the firewall is "in the cloud," including conventional outsourcing.Cloud computing comes into focus only when you think about what IT always needs: a way to increase capacity or add capabilities on the fly without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software. Cloud computing encompasses any subscription-based or pay-per-use service that, in real time over the Internet, extends IT's existing capabilities.

Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. These services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility over a network. Business applications are moving to the cloud. It’s not just a fad—the shift from traditional software models to the Internet has steadily gained momentum over the last 10 years.

Cloud computing is nothing bit the grid computing, It involves the interaction of several virtualized resources. To outsource the maintenance burden of servers and applications; the benefit of being able to access your data from anywhere with a internet connection; and the ability to replace heavy expenditure on IT with regular operational expenditure.

View attachment 1185 Cloud computing is a technology that uses the internet and central remote servers to maintain data and applications. For this picture presentation you get the clear idea about the cloud computing operation.

Yeah, its just another word for internet. Its not any distinguished term... its about storing your data on the internet and getting accessed to it from anywhere in the world using internet. I think there was no need of inventing such a term or word. How does it make a difference?

    Thanks to all above.

According to my little knowledge, clouds are the massive places (servers) to store huge data. They may be virtual or physical. Like on facebook and other social media site, millions of photos and content are being uploaded? Where do they go? Into the cloud.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

The Web itself is cloud computing. Somebody decided to give it that name to give the Web a fresh image, and to sell "new" products and services that already existed. It's all hype, really.

Many thanks. Lots of ambiguities and confusions are clear now.
I have read a lot about the cloud computing or cloud networking but didn't get the right point.
    Thanks again.

Yes I completely agree that web itself is cloud computing, just a few things have been rehashed, some intelligent restructuring of infrastructure and given a new fancy name.

Cloud computing, as far as I know, is a network of dedicated servers linked together over a SAN (storage area network).
When one computer goes down, another one takes over. Your files are stored on the network, similar to a college server.
At college, you can login and store files on any PC connected to the network. Cloud works in a very similar way, I believe. ;)

    Re:

I think cloud computing in simple terms is accessing data from a remote server. It's the same as having a server accept in a remote location and if anything, more secure.

As CBI Web has said that cloud computing is like a service or a product to store your huge data over the internet that makes a cloud.
Read more about Cloud computing. It clears lots of concepts about cloud computing.

Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. A cloud can be private or public. A public cloud sells services to anyone on the Internet. A private cloud is a proprietary network or a data center that supplies hosted services to a limited number of people.

Agree, web is a old term. Cloud computing is much more effective in marketing and advertising.

Cloud computing is about technology stacks in the same way the ISP business is about technology stacks. In general ISP deliver a consistent service to the myriads of web sites they host by employing a standard technology stack, most commonly, the LAMP (Linux Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack.

Cloud computing is the most asinine idea ever conceived in IT. After spending decades and dollars to learn how to keep information secure on a LAN, we're supposed to jump for joy at the prospect of putting our information on the web (in the full control of others) and feel secure?

Cloud computing is boom in these days and this is great business will for future. clouds are the massive places (servers) to store huge data.

everyone want own data restore on online with full safety. Cloud computing is best solutions for this.

As what I've understand, cloud computer has to be connected to fully operate itself as its operating system is on the server and their files. So if you aren't connected, you won't have access to your file. this is according to this thread.
