When you look at a forum, there is usually wide range of usernames. Some you can see why they have that username (something to do with their real name or location) but some are just totally random or just a string of letters and/or numbers.

What does your username mean and why do you use that username on forums?

Hi, people use different kind of usernames. Their name, wife's name, or shortened name.
If you see a string of letter and numbers as a username it is very likely a spam post sent by a bot.
The string is changed for each account created. If you see lots of those, the forum admin is probably not filtering them out.

    Best,

    michel

Not always are random usernames spam bots. An active user on FP has the username ofirofir85 which (to me) is just random letters and doesn't really have any word/name behind it (that I can see). Some users can have a word and then random numbers on the end which doesn't seem to mean anything such as a birth year, current year or a common number like 123. An example of a name like that is master412160.

Mine is just my surname which alot of people used to call by by when I was at school/college. I really got into forums when I was at college so i just carried online what alot of people called me offline.

i always try to use short and simple username if possible because i'm too lazy to type long user name when log in. Unfortunately, most of the time the name i wanna use is not available.

Mine is my first name, which is an Irish name that is rarely used outside of Ireland. For that reason I've often been pleasantly surprised to find that it is still available on some very large forums.

Well my name is an online screen name. Haley is the name of the vocalist of Paramore and McAdams is the last name of Rachel McAdams. Two of my faves combined. Although, if you want to know my real name you can PM me. But that depends on who you are ;)

User-name in forums, websites can matter. It can be pet name, nick name, own made name or even real names. It just matters on the people what they like.

The J stands for jail because I only escaped last week.
The A stands for arson, the reason for my arrest.
The Y is a question to the world WHY did I do such a thing?
What appears to be a full stop is actually a drawing of mine that represents my beliefs about the world we live in.

... No, Jay is actually just my name but it was taken so I added a full stop. :p

I think a lot of people just go for their own names or some slight variation.

It's the shortened form of my business name, CBI Web Services. CBI stands for Cape Breton Island, which is where I live in Canada.

Well ..I am huge fan of science fiction and there my name denotes first letters of each word..." Scifi"....

I have always analysed the things from science point of view....I believe what was science fiction once is reality today and so will be our future.....

Thus science fiction is the first stage of achieving some new technology beyond the approach of mankind TODAY....
