I am sure you are aware of the confusion/uncertainty brought about by the transition from Google Places to Google + Local. It has been a nightmare. And if you have seen your listing disappear/drop, you are patiently waiting for Google to roll out the changes that will see our listings restored.

Beware. If you have used a local business service centre or mail box rental office to create an address in another location in order to spread your listings then that may be your downfall.

There is mounting evidence to suggest that Google is blocking local listings for businesses using these business service centres and mail box addresses.

This could be bad news for small businesses that have invested in renting mailboxes or office space with a view to using them for little more than establishing credibility within Google Local.

We are keeping an eye on this situation as (as I'm sure you know) this migration from Google Local to Google+ Local is FAR from complete.

In order to obtain a listing in Google Places ( now Google+ Local), a business or business person must have an actual physical address, the point being that people who find that business can actual visit the actual location. Therefore, if someone is using a mailbox rental center as an address, they don't belong on Google+ Local.

That is indeed the 'rule' joeroxx.

But for the past 5 or so years MANY businesses have been successfully flouting that rule - using Mailboxs and Business Centres.
It would appear that is beeing tackled head-on by Google in this (painfully slow) migration fro Google Places to Google+ Local.

This is similar to those who use "black-hat" techniques for SEO, because they know ways to do it that supposedly hide what they are doing so Google can't tell. You may get away with it for awhile, but eventually, you will get caught.

Slight digression joeroxx, but the issue with the 'black hat' techniques is that the interpretation of them has changed considerably over the years. Unfortunately, there are probably hundreds of thousands of small businesses suffering as a consequence. The rate of business failure due to these re-interpretations is considerable.

For Google place listing, one needs a correct physical and a real contact number. You should have some real business.
