What is everyone's view on website flopping, the process of making a site with the intentions of selling it whether it be a forum or e-commerce. I have often thought about making forums to discuss a certain game but release it before the game actual hit the shelves for sale.

Get some insider information on big name upcoming releases, create a discussion forum, open the discussion forum X months before the release, let the forum grow and age a bit, then turn and sell it.

Is something like that worth it or would it be more aggravation then I would get in return?

Some people are making good money from website flipping. The important factor is obviously to build a site, that potential buyers are attracted to and want to purchase. A lot of sites sell for about ten times their monthly revenue, so you want the site revenue to be as high as possible, in order to increase your potential selling price. Even if the site is not making money at the time of the sale, you will want to have some good suggestions as to how the site could make money in the future and then communicate those revenue possibilities to potential buyers.

Thanks for the reply Fergal, this has been something I have been considering for a while. I know there is money in it if it's done properly, the trick is doing it correctly so that it can be sold. It seems like a gamble in a way (and I love the casino :p), you invest roughly $10-$20 dollars to start out and hope to turn around and sell it for a decent chunk of cash.

The information is great, Fergal. I didn’t know that the right term could be website flipping. After I have established all my sites, I think I will most likely venture into it. I think it would really be cool and will make you really proud. :)

It's a good idea if you sell a good product.

Jumping in and selling websites just to make money could stop you, your business & reputation before it starts. If you sell 1-5 sites for few hundred bucks each and those people dont get the response/support needed you could get back some very harsh reviews/feedback.

Website building isnt just as simple as setting it up :x

dan123, I'd asked about website flipping before too and got some great information and advice in that thread. You could give that a look as well.
