I agree, having an expert to advise, coach you and point you in the right direction would be a great way to learn. Have you any suggestions as to how to find an expert who will help you in that way?

As others said, w3schools and countless other sites provide great resources for the novice web dev in things like HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Set up a local web server (you can google for that) and play. I'd like to add that I strongly recommend (though others may disagree) you set yourself up in a unix environment as well (either OS X or a Linux distro like ubuntu). You'll discover that the web is really built around unix paradigms. The "forward slash" delimiter in urls, for instance, is the unix directory separator and if you're navigating a static site, you're really just browsing a publicly-exposed directory tree. Also, more advanced web-dev things like image resizing/duplicating/thumbnailing are really just wrapping up operations you'd need to know how to do at the command line first (like ImageMagick invocations and file moving/copying/renaming) in a Ruby, Python or PHP function exposed to user interaction through your web framework.

If you want to learn online w3cschool is the best place you can find. But if learning online is a difficult job for you then I will advice you to go to local classes which teach web designing because there you can ask your doubts easily.

You are right Cody, if anyone want to learn web designing then you have to start from basic or fundamentals like HTML which is the basic language to learn webpage designing. After gaining basic knowledge you can move ahead to dreamweaver, flash,PHP etc these all are advanced level courses which are highly used to design valuable website.
