The company I work for is in direct competition with the likes of Microsoft and Oracle. That being the case, it is pretty tough for us to get our name out there. In 2006 we contacted the brilliant guys over at Barats & Bereta Productions to see if they'd be interested in helping us increase our brand name recognition. The result was the phenomenon known as Cubicle Wars 2006. All we asked was that our company name be mentioned once and left the rest of the video to their creativity. It was a big risk, but with close to 2.5 million views on YouTube we think it paid off. Sure, it's probably not the most relevant add and we didn't see a massive increase in sales, but it definitely helped spread the Windward name and we made people laugh in the process. We're also happy to announce that Cubicle Wars 2010 is in the works. Stay tuned...

Sounds like you guys have the right idea. 2.5 millions views, wow. That's awesome. Good luck with the new Cubicle Wars.

That's a great story Sam, 2.5 Million views is fantastic publicity. I've actually seen the scene where one of the guy's ties is stapled to his desk, used as a forum avatar. Did you see a big increase in traffic to your site, following on from the ad?

We saw a very large spike in traffic to our site, but unfortunately no new customers. We compete with Microsoft and Oracle to name a few though so we'll take any publicity we can get.

And speaking of, the next installment of Cubicle Wars is here! Take a minute out of your Friday and enjoy :)

Viral marketing depends on a high pass-along rate from person to person. If a large percentage of recipients forward something to a large number of friends, the overall growth snowballs very quickly. If the pass-along numbers get too low, the overall growth quickly fizzles.

At the height of B2C it seemed as if every startup had a viral component to its strategy, or at least claimed to have one. However, relatively few marketing viruses achieve success on a scale similar to Hotmail, widely cited as the first example of viral marketing.

Viral marketing is a marketing strategy that relies on individuals rather than traditional campaigns to pass along a message to others. It usually refers to marketing on the Internet. Viral marketing is so named because of the tendency for messages to use "hosts" to spread themselves rapidly, like a biological virus.

Viral marketing is marketing method that makes Web sites or users to pass on marketing message to other sites or users, making potentially exponential growth in message's visibility and affect e.g. Hotmail. It promotes its service and its own advertisers' messages in every user's e-mail notes.

I've previously read a little bit about the initial Founders of Hotmail. The way they included a link back to the Hotmail site, in every email sent out by one of their users, played a hugely significant role in promoting their service and growing the business. Although it may seem obvious now, it was something that was not done at the time and was an extremely smart and innovative move.

Viral marketing is an idea that spreads and idea that while it is spreading actually helps market your business or cause. Original classic sort in which the marketing is product and which self-amplifying cycle occurs. The more people use them, the more people see them. The more people see them, the more people use them. The product or service must be something that improves once more people use it.

    hi

With an amount lower than $1000, you can launch a viral marketing campaign with high chances of reaching out to millions of people swiftly and without much effort. For instance, Burger King released an interactive video on their mini website featuring a man adorned as a chicken. They structured a message bar where you can input a command that will make the chicken-like man to jump, run, dance or even play dead. This creativity was so much loved and embraced by people and just in less than 48 hours the site had 1 million hits and a colossal 8 million by the week end!

charlesying that's an interesting example of a successful viral marketing campaign. Do you have any examples of similar successes achieved by much smaller companies?

Viral marketing is more powerful than third-party advertising because it conveys an implied endorsement from a friend. Although clearly delineated as an advertisement.

Viral marketing and viral advertising are marketing methods that utilize already existing social networks to generate increases in brand alertness or to get other marketing objectives through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses.

I wish you the best of luck for that. As Viral marketing is an idea that spreads and idea that while it is spreading actually helps market your business or cause.
