Now a days people launch their websites and start asking "how to get number 1 position on google". So Guys, Spend your time wisely, be patient and acquire some worthy links to your websites, you will see results much faster than spamming out poor links. Not to mention you will sleep easier knowing there is no chance of you getting de-indexed by Google for questionable practices (*cough* buying links).

Below is a list of websites I use personally, organised into different categories, straight out of my black book! I can’t stress this enough, use the list responsibly, contribute good content, and you WILL see results.

    Hub pages

Hub pages have been around for a long time, but some webmasters still don’t really know what they are. It’s simple, you register as a user, start posting articles, tutorials, reviews, anything you think people might want to read, and in return you can create a link in the content you publish. Below are websites to get you started, there are many more for you to discover.

    Squidoo – http://www.squidoo.com/
    You Say Too – http://www.yousaytoo.com/
    Tumblr – http://www.tumblr.com/

    Article submission

The next level up from hub pages, while hubs are more social based, articlessyndication is for the more serious content you wish to publish. Spend a little time and write some good compelling copy, article sites tend to have good authority and are great for high quality links.

    Articlebase – http://www.articlesbase.com/
    Ezine Articles – http://ezinearticles.com/
    Go Articles – http://goarticles.com/

    Online PR

Using press releases as a link building method a little harder. Ideally you need a newsworthy event for this to work well, but when you do make sure you take full advantage of it. Below are some PR submission websites you can use to get your PR out there. For best results, put some time in and do your research, contact relevant journalists personally.

    PR Release – http://www.pr.com/press-releases
    PR Web – http://www.prweb.com/
    PR Leap – http://www.prleap.com/

    Wiki Pages

We all know Wikipedia, but not all of us have a brand that is “Wikipedia worthy”. Below are some wiki pages I have used in the past. Again, make sure the content you put up on your wiki is well written and worth reading. Wikis are like the new encyclopedia, so make sure the information you provide is useful.

    Wikihow – http://www.wikihow.com/
    Wikidot – http://www.wikidot.com/
    Picowiki – http://www.picowiki.com/

    Directories

Many people think directories are outdated and hold little value, well they are partly right, there are many automated, low quality spamming directories out there, but there are also essential directories you need to be listed in. Below are some highly ranked and authoritative directories that I have used in the past. Some of them may not be easy to get listed in, but they wouldn’t be good if it were easy.

    AbiLogic – http://www.abilogic.com/
    AllyDirectory – http://www.allydirectory.com/
    Aviva Directory – http://www.avivadirectory.com/
    Awesome Library – http://www.awesomelibrary.org/
    Ezilon – http://ezilon.com/
    HotVsNot.com – http://hotvsnot.com/
    The Environmental directory – http://www.webdirectory.com/
    WEBTOOL Directory – http://iwebtool.com/directory/

    Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a great way to get your site noticed, tag your site on the resources below and get your friends to tag your submissions as well. This will help your website with a lot of social exposure, if you get to the front page of social bookmarking sites you will automatically attract links and visitors.

    Amplify – http://amplify.com/
    Clipmarks – http://clipmarks.com/
    Jaiku – http://www.jaiku.com/
    MyLinkVault – http://www.mylinkvault.com/
    OYAX – http://www.oyax.com/
    Rollyo – http://rollyo.com/
    Startaid – http://www.startaid.com/
    Xmarks – http://www.xmarks.com/

This is really useful piece of information. But does google rate those web sites good? I saw quite a lot of spamming sites using squidoo, etc, maybe one day google will decide to rate low for those sites since too many spammer are using that to bubble up the rate.

Most of the Social Bookmarking links are outdated. Some sites closed and some are closing.

Each link building resource given, though most of them are old backlink sources -- can still help in "quality ways"

    1. Hub pages - is a place where you share what is relevant to what others are looking for. You pubslih content with respect to their needs, not just about some old idea being rewritten or shared again and again.

    2. Article Submission site - it is a good form or promoting information content while trying to market your own service and product. But to make is "of quality" you have to provide something that targets long term succeess. Example of such content are evergreen contents, or contents that are continuously searched by people overtime, even though it is a very old idea or knowledge. [sample: how to tie your shoe]

    3. Online PR - Of course, when you have new product releases and services that you want your customers to try, this is one of the best ways to distribute it online.

    4. Wiki Pages - are some sort of a very informative, almost no marketing intent page at all. You can only rely on reference links that are added on by conforming with rules of promotion or too much advertising on the content.

    5. Directories - can be of good use when trying to targte localities. It will help in your geo-targeting plans for your pages and for your website as a whole.

    6. Social bookmarking, or better if social networking and sharing - where you connect with people within the social network and community, interact directly to them to build your brand.

    Thanks,
    Mark T

    Hi guys,

I'd like to add Manta.com into the group. I have been using Manta for a few weeks now and it is giving me good referral traffic to my site. [although very low, but I'm expecting to get more in the next few week, weekly] My business profile page gets a weekly 130+ visits which is very low as of now, but as I look into my weekly stats, it is improving and showing me an upward trend.

I think you should try this for your businesses to improve your visibility when it comes to businesses' social network presence and not just rely on other social media tools.

    Regards,
    Mark T

The best link building strategy is to get links from quality and relevant websites with yours, either a one-way link, or reciprocal.

Note that the link title should reflect with your desired keywords. Don't ignore internal link also, as internal links would also be a benefit.

    Hi Fergal,

Manta's purpose is to add and provide brand visibility to your target markets. It helps you create your profile along with other businesses and professionals.
It's more like a social network for businesses.

Also, it's not just about getting links. Remember that link building has evolve and it's not always about linking anymore. It's about customer acquisition and retention and I think Manta has helped several businesses with it.

    Regards,
    Mark

As with any form of marketing a mix of several option listed is the best way forward, Natural looking links offer the best solution. Utilise a variety of methods including, social, article, directory and other types of sites, but in addition try to obtain relevant links to your particular niche as they will generally be classed as the best, especially if from an authority site in your niche.

This is really huge. All link building resources in one place. Now I don’t have to check my all bookmarks for “link building”, I just saved this.

I appreciate your effort but except 2 bookmarking sites others aren't working.
    Directories aren't free either.

I think since the "rules" are changing all the time, it makes sense to listen to the latest news when it comes to link building and SEO so you are doing the right thing, although some of th older posts included have very applicable advice.
