My index page has quite a bit of text on it. It describes who we are and what the site is about along with some general info.

With so much text, it lowers the keyword density %. Could this be why some other sites are higher positions than I am?

    Thanks for any info

Keyword Density plays a little part in SERPs. Ask yourself if your website's content is useful and unique. If it does maybe a little link building will boost up the ranks. But it also depends on the websites niche.

Your site is not performing, it could be due to many issue. The targeting keyword have high competition, your competitor have better seo than you, your domain is new and less traffic.
If a website content is not unique, basically it will kill by Google Panda.

Rich content will not create any issue, it is good to maintain keywords density at 3-5%, but not over spamming with the content with keywords.

I don't think if you are providing related and rich content then there is no problem you can use your content. And keyword can be use in meta tags. So its fine.

Google isn't really bothered by too much content, unless of course it's spam content. As for keyword density, it needs to be balanced correctly too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for spamming.

Make sure you got yourself a keyword that is possible to dominate. As for the content, post unique helpful content and do not over promote.

I agree with this. Focus on keywords that have easier competitors to beat. Also make sure that your contents are unique.

Not true, too many unique content will never give negative impact on the serp
Every single post basically is individual page, so not such thing that decrease of keyword density
Of course, general blog is not as good as niche blog because the content is too wide, search engine prefer deep discussion on the topic

if your contents are unique, then you won't have problems or anything. all you just need are links from some other sites whether sitewide or not.

Too much content won't harm your rankings and website. We all know that Google loves text but make sure that your content is not duplicate or copied from other websites plus make it more compelling. Give your visitors a reason to like your post and share it to his friends and colleagues.

    Re:

What is the keyword phrase you are targeting?

It could have to do with external / off-page factors.

However, I think your title is to long. By using so many different keywords, you are diluting the weight for the main keywords your are try to target IMO.

yes, description should be short and also contain the information about the product and services. you can write approx 160 words in description. And if your site have quality content then there is no doubt that your site will perform well.

Hi Gary! Well actually keyword density isn't really a thing that you should be worrying as an SEO. If you are optimizing for content then you might like to put a little effort of being more "convincing" than being more calculative in keyword density. People don't read a long article because it's boring and wordy. But if you put some effort in dividing those lines to make it much easier to read, people might actually read your article word by word. And also even if you don't have a balanced keyword density you wouldn't be flagged as spammer unless you really are spamming.

Keyword Density is the percentage of occurrence of your keywords to the text in the rest of your webpage.
It is important for your main keywords to have the correct keyword density to rank well in Search Engines.

The density has very little to do with it. If the title is optimized, and the page has several occurrences of the various grammatical forms of all the keywords, then that is all you can do... the rest comes down to PR and competition. More content, and more words, will help, not hurt.
