According to www.revenews.com TLDs will soon become big, big business. The quote below is from an article there detailing how new customisable TLDs will soon be available. What do you think? Would a product benefit from a customisable extension?

Customisable extensions would be great, I can think of some uses for .baf domains and would love to get my hands on that. However, I see that they will cost about $185,000 to register and $25,000 per year to maintain after that. Obviously this will prove quite restrictive.

I found the following question, which was posted on that article interesting; "What can you do with .coke that you can’t do with coke.com?” I suppose if you have a brand name like virgin it would be great to have websites on domains such as mobile.virgin, bank.virgin, flights.virgin, etc, etc.

Yeah, they are great examples for the types of uses big companies would use the extensions for, I should really have posted the cost also - quite key I guess. Cheers Fergal.

Customizable domain looks really cool. I would love to own one sometime.

What do you think you would buy? Or be useful?

It's a cool idea. But for the prices they're trying to get users to pay for them, I highly doubt this will become a "huge hit". They could definitely be useful though.

This is a great idea... But the fee? That is absolutely ridiculous but I guess it will restrict who can actually buy the names which is what ICAAN wants right?

Exactly what they want, meaning nice big pay cheques and exclusivety of course.

I'd imagine that domain names such as downloads.jefusion or blog.hefusion would be appealing?

Well, it will certainly get cheaper as the time goes by. Remember COM domains back in the days?

    Ready for Open Domain Names

    Source: http://www.gmanews.tv/story/224037/technology/internet-body-throws-open-domain-names

Seriously? This will only fill the internet with useless junk of domain extensions.
What's your side on this future "improvement"?
