I have a domain in which I am going to be publishing articles and tutorials to. The only thing is, I wish to run a forum under it for more serious discussions and allow people to post advertising threads.

My problem now is I have the word 'forum' in my domain name so I'm not sure how to put the forums. should I have it like:

    forums.forum****.net
    forum****.net/forums
    board.forum****.net
    forum****.net/board

I am struggling to figure out which one I should choose.

I'd probably choose forum****.net/board simply because subfolder aren't considered by search engine as another site. thus it can rank easier than subdomain. This is from what I've experience with subdomain forum which was treated by search engine separately with its main site.

What script will you be using for the site J Greig? Some scripts provide functionality for forums and articles. You could run the article site and forum with the same script on the same domain and have a portal on your home page.
