Scan for viruses and malware regularly on top of running CCleaner and clearing your startup of unnecessary items, as previously stated.

    I do this usually.

    1. Delete temporary internet files. Method: Search "%temp%" > select item(S) > Delete
    2. Clean disk
    3. Disk defragment

To improve your computer speed, remove all the history, clean / delete unnecessary files , remove unwanted software. And reduce the number of applications running on your system.
At the end do the defragmentation.
