Squarespace, a hosted content service that competes with companies such as WordPress (see disclosure below) has closed a $38-million financing round from two leading technology VCs — Accel Partners and Index Ventures — that will give the seven-year-old company a significant warchest and some substantial backing in the battle for digital-publishing market share. Representatives from both venture funds will join Squarespace’s newly created board of directors, along with Jonathan Klein, the founder and CEO of Getty

I'd never heard of Squarespace before, but that is a big investment so we will probably hear more about them in the future.

The fact that they offer a free trial is reassuring and the tour video on their site does give the impression that it is very easy to build and customise a site using their service. They offer templates, but they don't look anything special in the tour video. I wonder what the range of templates is like. The fact that unlike Wordpress, they are not free, will probably mean that there will not be as many templates available.
