    Hello friends,

There are many who are eager to start an online business but they don't know the legal procedures - I am one of them.:D

Normally when you start a business you need to register your company with the Registrar of Companies of that country. Similarly, do we need to register online business? And if yes, then with whom?

    Regards,
    Zerzis

Zerzis the registration procedures will depend on the specific laws of the area you are setting the business up in. The same rules normally apply to a web based business as any other type of business, so you will most probably still need to contact the Registrar of Companies in your local area.

Is there a government enterprise support agency or Chamber of Commerce in your area that could provide you with the forms and procedures needed to do this?

Yes. Even a small town has Chamber of Commerce in India, and I live in a big developed city - it must have a Chamber of Commerce. I will find it out. Thanks for the guidelines Fergal. :)

The best part about online business is that you can register them almost anywhere. If you look around, you could find somewhere to register it so that you can operate almost tax free. Unless you are American, it seems the US government tracks you down no matter where you are. One of my colleague's just recieved a bill for taxes he owes for his eBay store which he has been operating in Thailand for the past 3 years.

Would you have any further details or links relevant to registering an online business outside of the country you live in?

You can register your online business in the US, in one of the incorporation friendly states – Delaware, Nevada or Wyoming. Delaware is a choice for those looking to build solid startups, funded with Angels or VC. Nevada and Wyoming are for more boutique online businesses. All three states are friendly towards out-of-state companies, and if you will be collecting revenue in the US (the biggest market for online products and services) you will have to establish legal presence and pay taxes there either way.
