    Hi all,

As we all know that major search engine dislike duplicate content and that was the basis that Panda was introduced to control the content farming.

Let's say we have two sites.

    siteA: http://www.siteA.com
    siteB: http://www.siteB.com

siteB copied content from siteA and pasted on its site.

Now I want to know that when Google would crawl both sites, which site would be banned?

siteA or siteB? where siteA has its own original content and siteB has copied from it.

can't remember where i've read this but according to them, google crawler inspects the dates and when the bots found out siteB copied the contents of siteA then there is a possibility that the rank of siteB will drop or worse.

In theory Site A should rank higher because they added original content to their site. However, I'm always on the lookout for content that was copied on other sites and pasted on BAF. When I find such content I remove it, when it breaches copyright. Surprisingly I've seen times where BAF ranked higher in the search engines than the original source of the content.

I suppose the lesson is use original content on your site and if you see anyone stealing it and using it on their site, take action to force them to remove it.

This is surprising, how do you search for it Fergal - simply by searching a paragraph in Google? Or using CopyScape?

That's pretty much spot on - basically Google will use data points to see which is original.

Basically, this is how I do it. There are times when I check out my site's ranking on a certain keyword. And if I saw some other site which have the very same post I have, I will contact them. I have already taken down 2 wordpress blogs for copying content on my blog.

Google have the data about every minor change in your site and when it is done, if site A is crawled and indexed first than site B, then the looser will be site B.

    Take down?
you probably mean request to delete the particular article. i don't think you can take down a site just because of it. But i'm interested to know how you did it.

What if 2 site update the duplicate content at the same time? how does Google index it? As I know, some of the site will take 1-2 weeks to crawled and re-indexed.

not sure how the bots will handle it. :D i think it will be rediscovered once an update going. most probably the article is owned by a single person and so are the sites.

I guess, search engine will take count on others factor such as, number of visitor, domain age, and PR. A newer register domain will be less trust by search engine.

Yeah. It's take down. The Wordpress blog only contains copied posts from my blog, not a single original post. The owner even deletes my comments asking him to remove the posts...

Alright, just offering my two cents on Duplicate Content.... Here goes:

Google "may" have a way of knowing the duplicate content by pushing it down the pages of search engines search - because the site where it is posted is deemed low quality.

Google cannot ban your site, but they can penalize sites or posts with duplicate content by pushing it down 1000+ in the SERPs (Search engine results pages). if you were a searcher - would you even bother looking through all the search pages--- right?

So, if you find someone who plagiarized your content - go to Plagiarism checker for steps on how to report it: go to plagiarism checker dot com slash report cheater.

Hope this helps... Otherwise, just keep your site/ blog updated with fresh new content and Google will love you for it - and PUSH YOU UP in the SERPS :)

The worst thing with duplicate content is that you cant know which of the sites will be penalised the original one or the second one...so think twice before do it.

That's very true! Just report if you are really hell-bent pissed with the one who copied from you. Otherwise, just write more content and build your blog - make it even better!

Directly Duplicate the content is cheating, but it saves time and money.
At this point, people may require a spinner to help to revise the content? Maybe.
