My current immediate boss was recently promoted to VP of Sales. He became in charge of all sales departments (4 in the US 1 overseas) company-wide. Each department of course has a Director of Sales, Director of Operations, and Managers running the sales floor. Directly under him is the VP of Operations.

I currently manage the salesforce overseas. The company is growing fast, always has been since I arrived. I am as usual on the pursuit of being promoted again. I have been thinking of ways to approach him with a proposition. Of course the next promotion for me as stated by him would be Director of Sales, which I am shooting for. However lately, talking to him I have noticed the overwhelming work he has to do and everything that goes with running all sales departments. I recently thought that I could approach him with a position below him as some kind of assistant vp of sales or something where I can help run the sales departments. Does this sound way out of line? I feel like there is something there but I cannot put my finger on it. I know I can sit and brain storm and figure it out which I will do, but I was hoping to get some advice or tips on what positions I can approach him with. Any tips advice would be greatly appreciated.

hello, I think that's your boss who has to give you a position he sees fit. Not the other way around.

Yes, normally I would agree with you. However the dynamic of the company is as such, where a position can be created and can be approached by the individual who is creating the position.

I want to be pragmatic and of course create a position that benefits the company first and for most.

    Thank you for the feedback.

Goodluck to you Snazhand. You can suggest that of course for the good of the company and for the business to run smoothly.
