    Hello,
I own a music forum (http://disturbedmb.com). In order to pay for the hosting, I'm trying to make money off ads on the site. I've used Adsense before, but was banned. If I can't find a good CPC or CPM, I may go back with them.

    I get:
    Ave 300 uniques daily
    Ave 600 visits daily
    10000 hits daily

Recently, I've been getting over 500 unqies daily.

I tried adbrite, but was upset at the irrelevant ads, and how many of the ads were inappropriate for minors (not porn ads, however). I was on there for about a week, and only accumulated $.30 from 50,000+ hits and around 10 clicks.

I'm on Bidvertiser, but I'm not impressed at all. The ads were appropriate for minors, but weren't relevant either. I keep on getting the same ads about some e-cigarette. Also, a member of my staff clicked on a couple ads, thinking that they were phishing scams, to report them back to me. (I do not tell my members to click the ads) Bidvertiser did not register these clicks. After 5 days I've earned $.06

I understand that there won't be immediate results, but for the traffic I'm getting, I should be earning a lot more than $1 a month or less.

Any help would be nice :)

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm not really looking at affiliate ads yet, I know of a much better time when I could use those.

Have you or somebody you know used buysellads? Of course it depends on the traffic, but do they pay more than adbrite or bidvertiser?

Elochai you could try using Amazon's Partner programme to sell products such as CD's and books directly related to the Disturbed band. You could even set up a store to sell Disturbed products and receive a commission every time someone makes a purchase.

Another option would be to sell ad space on the site yourself. Is that something you would consider, or would you prefer use an ad network.

You can view a good list of ad networks in our Useful Online Business Resources thread.

I plan on setting up something like this in late July, since their newest CD comes out in late August. The only thing setting me back from doing it now is that the majority of people on the site already own most/all of the albums.

I prefer to go through an ad agency. If I start consistently getting more traffic, I may sell it by myself.

Since Kay recommended BSA, and it's also at the top of your list, I'm going to try it out.

EDIT: Apparently, my forum software isn't very accurate in it's hit count. I was about to register, and went to Google analytics to make sure that I had 100k impressions per month. My forum software says 318,510 and Google Analytics and Awstats say somewhere around 50,000-70,000. Should I apply anyway?

Apply anyway, the worst they can do is say no. Just a note also to say that list is in no particular list, the fact that BSA are on top of the list, doesn't actually mean that they are the best.

If you are using bidvertiser, i will suggest you use the manual approve than auto approve. The reason to use the manual approve is you can choose only those related ads which will helps you to get better CTR

I haven't used buysellads myself Elochai but I know a forum owner that did and was very happy with them. His forum was a PR3 if that's any help. Him recommending it was good enough for me. He's since sold the forum so I can't ask him about how it's doing now, sorry. I can tell you though that he was extremely picky about who to use and that's why I have no qualms about passing that on. :)

This was a few years ago (at least 3), so I don't remember exactly.
Low traffic (5 uniques or so), mostly from where my geographic location was (since that's where the users were from), and little content. And I believed I clicked on the ad once. They never gave me a reason I believe, and my email account that I used for that has been deleted for a long time.
Since then I have never clicked on my own ads. In fact, I went to my bidvertiser admin panel to get the url of a website who's ad was shown on my website, so I wouldn't click on the ad.

But if I only approve a few ads, won't I earn less? Since Bidvertiser claims they show the highest earning ads.

    Thanks!

Can you explain your experience in some sort of detail?

Also, it may be worth noting, I received another click credited, this time for 24c. However, I believe with the traffic I get, more than 2 people click on an ad per week.

People always think that more ads means higher chance to get clicked, that's not true
Non related ads will not give you click, or saying you are earning nothing from tons of non related ads. Always remember, related ads is providing much higher conversion rate

That's actually a positive, you know what your members and visitors are spending their money on. You may want to add the store some time before the new album comes out, this will ensure that your members and visitors know that they will be able to buy it through your site, as soon as it is released. Many of them will be keen to support the community so don't be afraid to tell them that the site receives a commission for every sale made.

Have you considered being an affiliate for other band related merchandise such as posters, books, T-shirts, other clothing, etc?

Have you tried contacting Google and asking them the reason why they banned you?
