In these days many of the older link building techniques are not providing the results which they use to produce few years back so people have moved on to some new techniques like guest posting and making private blog network (PBN). Which of these techniques are providing better results at the moment?

Neither. Actually PBNs are a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines, so those should be avoided. So called "SEO Hosting" claims to have ways of hiding what you are doing, but if it's a legitimate technique, why do you have to hide it? Guest posting has also fallen out of favor, but it can be used to share your knowledge with potential visitors, if the blog you are a guest on is a high quality, popular, high traffic blog.

Guest posting is better as compared to PBN, but only if you are posting on the reputed blog. Make sure you are sharing the informative post and not only to get backlink. This technique was also considered as a Black Hat technique because people started posting blogs on any website even though it is not related to their niche.

So if you want to be benefited from this technique, submit content in the niche blog.

Guest post is better then PBN, Posting content to high authority website is a great idea but make sure your content is unique and informative.

PBN is banned by google guidelines and is definitely not recommended.

Guest posts can be preferable but they should be on related topics to the website which is posting the same.

Guest posts is better because you write an article for a website and get a link to your website/blog in return.
You may also link to your social media profiles.

You need to update your sources, neither of these methods are effective.

It really depends. A lot of people will say Guest posting is better but if you are in this industry for quite a while, you'll see that there are way more people building PBNs than Guest posting. IMO, both can be effective if done with so much care.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, PBNs are a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines, so it doesn't matter how much care you do it with, it's wrong! Guest posting, like any other technique, should not be done primarily as a link building technique, but as a way to share your knowledge and expertise, and to increase your authority. Link building is a secondary benefit.
