    Hello,

I'm a German guy, doing business in China, receiving money via PayPal from Westeurope and now PayPal is asking for my tax ID.
So do I simply need to provide my SSN from Germany?
Does that help at all (since I don't file my taxes in the US)?

    Thanks,
    Til

Most of the time this is just to check that you are a legitimate member and not a bot account laundering money. Is your account relatively new (last few months)?

I think your SSL would be fine, it will be checked by a human anyway so if there's any problems you should be able to sort it out easily.

They deal with a lot of fraud and I can't blame them for their restrictions.

If you have nothing to hide, I think you can listen to what Paypal is saying.

I think the problem was solved .. I could simply choose that I'm not a US citizen and the good have nothing to do with the US as well.
So - everything is fine I guess. :)

Thank you guys for your quick help.

Don't they ask for valid government ID?

Most of the credit card processing companies ask for proper business related documents before they allow you to make transactions. They normally keep on updating their policies from time to time based on the restrictions put up by the several countries they deal in. Hence, this was a necessity for them and for you too. Its good that your problem is resolved but make sure to check your email from time to time and keep yourself informed with the latest updates that they may be doing in their policies.

Probably not if one doesn't register from the US?
I had to triple confirm that neither I nor any products have anything to do with the US.
And the taxes etc. is all done within China or on the customers side in west Europe.

Yes, I'll definitely check the account frequently. :)
