    Hi there,

I have an exact match domain name for a highly competitive keyword. My anchor text profile is mainly brand term which happens to be my domain name. If I rebrand my website and change domain including a 301 redirect of all pages will my new domain get penalised for this exact match keyword?

    Thanks

I don't believe you will get penalized, but why are you changing to the EMD? Was there something wrong with the other domain name, which happens to be your brand? If you want people to remember your company, you want your brand to be recognized. You may never become as popular as Kleenex or Formica, but these have become synonymous with, respectively, tissues and countertop laminate. When people think of your product or service, you want them to think of your brand name. So, changing your URL to a keyword because you think it will substantially increase your rankings is a mistake you should probably not make.
