Just looking around the forums to hopefully, pick up a few tips from fellow people around here. Looking at the same time, of course to get a online business started ( Hopefully! ) around the "Web Hosting" field.

    Hello Dest, Welcome the BAF!!!

Thanks for joining, and hope you will participate, adding to the ever growing wealth of in formation we have.

The hosting field is a problematic area to get in to, I've had two hosting companies in the past, and sold them both before they flopped. Trying to compete with hostgator or godaddy's pricing is not possible, since they are able to over sell their services.

If you want to do hosting you want to think about making it a package deal. Domain name, site design, monthly updates, hosting, and local advertising for $X,XXX.XX per year, part paid up front and the rest paid monthly. You would want to target small businesses, like one crew landscapers, for a living brochure that can be accessed 24/7.

    Good luck to you.

Hi Dest, welcome to Business Advice Forum and thanks for joining. I'm delighted to see that you are getting some advice already on your hosting business. As Pendelton says, it is difficult to compete with the major hosting companies in terms of price. Don't let that dampen your enthusiasm, there are lots of very small hosting companies that are doing very well, by targeting a niche market.

To follow from Pendelton's suggestions, small business owners who want a website and are not very familiar with the web are unlikely to use the major hosting companies. They are more likely to use a local hosting company, or more likely still to get their hosting through their local web designer.

Please feel free to ask any specific question you have in our Online Business forum.
