The strongest criticisms of FaceBook concern privacy issues, sounds like these changes will help them to deal with that, by giving their members more control over who will see their personal information and contributions.

Hopefully privacy issues will be reduced, but with all these applications and group stuff new will rise. For example, you can now download contact details in .zip format? What happens if someone exploits an account? Download a huge list of sensitive information?

Good point. I guess you just have to hope and pray that their security measures are strong enough to not let that happen. Or keep your information to a minimum that you'd be willing to risk. I would imagine they have a pretty iron clad setup in place before making this public. That's the risk we take online every time we had over our credit card information or anything sensitive to any website. Hackers lurk everywhere.

not a help still if they won't erase a thing once a user deactivate their own account.
has anyone ever tried deactivating their account? once you did, information will still be their and you can even logged back in. :D

Nope, never tried it. Maybe that's changed though in recent months with all their privacy and settings tweaks. If you feel like trying it again, this guide on how to permanently deactivate a Facebook account is only a week old. Perhaps you tried to login again within the 14 days window for deletion?

Well i would react about privacy problems on Facebook.

I'm a user for 2 years (maybe more) and i don't have many problems with my details. I just check that some personnal details are just accessible by my friends only, not friends of friends (that could be more than 100k people at the moment ...)

The most problem i think is applications.
All are not controlled by Facebook and they can re-use your details.

I've deleted all applications that are non-Facebook ones.
