I'm a long-serving employee of a small company. I may soon become the first employee of a new sister company, using my experience in the sector to help get it off the ground. I feel it's appropriate to request some level of ownership and/or control in the new company as it seems likely that I'll be a large factor in its initial success as the only person 'on the ground' day-to-day. I'm interested in opinions on whether this is reasonable and where to start negotiations. Shares, options and profit sharing are all up for discussion. I'm not sure if a seat on the board is appropriate or important in these circumstances. I'd be particularly interesting in hearing any experience from similar negotiations.
