One of the other members had a similar problem with the Title Tag, as described in this thread. The "problem" is the same in both cases, and so is the "solution". Google does not use the Title Tag or Description meta tag as a ranking factor, but does still use the Title Tag as the Title of your listing, and the Description meta tag as the short snippet under the title depending on the relevance to the search term. If Google does not think the existing Title Tag and/or Description meta tag are relevant enough, it will take relevant information from the content of the page.
For each web page, you should pursue one or two keywords that are relevant to the content of the page, and actually use those keywords in the content of the page. They should also be used in the Title Tag and Description meta tag. Even if you do this, only Google knows how Google does what it does, so there is no guarantee it will be used, but actually using the desired keywords could make it more likely that Google will use the provided Title Tag and Description meta tag.
Providing more specific information will allow us to help, as much as we can, in a specific situation.

Yes I agree sometimes hard to see your preferred title or description is not reflecting in your SERP.
Fortunately Google algorithm developed in that way. Google bot are better in understanding your page and match the information what people
    needed.

I would suggest you to analyze your page and targeted keywords and make necessary changes and make the bots crawl again. Let me know if you need assistance. So that we can discuss. Of course for free. LOL

a quality meta description accurately describes what is on the page, contains the keywords the website owner wants the page to rank for, and is highly relevant to the search term. Just like quality content on the page, which is informative and relevant to the search, the meta description should be a quality description as well. Conversely, a meta description that contains nothing but keywords is a low quality description.

While creating meta description it is very important for you to focus on that meta description should be fewer than 155 character and include quick summary of the content.

Google doesn't use any particular meta tag to index in the search engeine results page. Automatically it catches more related content block from the website to place as the description in the results page.related content means that particular words which visitor used to search in google.

Although it is not used as a ranking signal, Google will use the Title Tag and Description meta tag if they have a high relevance to the search term. If not, Google will take related content from the webpage itself, but does not "automatically" go to the webpage first.

meta tags are still important. because title tags and meta description are showing in search result. If meta description not found on a web page then Google show description from directory which is relevant to a web page.

Submit your website with the same title and description from your site, by using different platforms. Google usually uses different section within your site to include in the rich snippets.

Google taking your description from outside sources, if you want your title and description to be shown on search result then, use this tag - <meta name="robots" content="noodp, noydir" />

For the benefit of those who may not be in the website design or marketing industry, can you explain what "noodp" and "noydir" mean, what they do, and how they help with the OP's question?

If you have submited your site in a Directory with different title and currently your site's title is different,
then sometimes google use that old Title while showing your site in SERP, So if you put this tag then google will show the title which you have on your site.
This is helpful for OP because his title is different and google is showing different title ...
