As we all know the keywords in seo play an important role. And there are two main keywords -target keywords and long tail keywords. Target keywords are used by target customers for making more a good rankings in search engine. Also, most of the traffic are from target keywords. While long tail keywords are the non-target keywords which can bring search traffic to websites.

They have several main features. One is long. They are usually make of two or three words, even short phrases. Then they not only appear on the internal content, but also appear in the web tittle. Also the search rate is rarely low and not stable in some aspects. Most of the customers brought by the long tail keywords can become into target customers, and the success rate is higher than that of target keywords.

Caterine I want to add that long tail keywords are suitable for SEO while the short tail keywords are suitable for PPC. As Short tail Keywords have high computation and long tail keywords have low computation.

If your site is new to search engine you can go for the long tail keywords for your site. If you get ranked for long tails initially then you can go for the keyword which is highly competitive.

New site cannot be ranked for the highly competitive keyword.

Why do you think so? For the first time of course it cannot, but sooner you start promoting your KWs faster you will get higher ranks

so more and more people try to build more longtail keywords in web optimization. for a new website, you can not compete with the large sites in target keywords so the longtail one is the best choice.

I think the new website can't get a nice rank position without optimization of the keywords.

Tim, search terms are words are phrases that Internet users search for when looking for something via a search engine. Keywords are words and phrases that website owners target, when they want to improve the SEO of their site. E.g. I as a website owner might chose "business" as a keyword, and try to optimize Business Advice Forum in such a way that when Internet users search for the term "business", we come up near the top of the search engine results.

Long tail keywords are related to longer and more specific search terms. For example if I tried to optimize this website for "business advice for website owners", that would be an example of a long tail keyword. That search term would be searched for much less than "business", but due to less competition it should be much easier to rank highly for "business advice for website owners" than for "business". I hope that clarifies it?

Nowadays exact keywords usage is best because in the past Google likes the long tail not now.

It's very difficult to rank site on targeted keywords because of competition, picking a good long tail keyword is a good strategy for getting some traffic.

I don't understand your reasoning for this. The suitability of a suitability of organic listing(SEO) versus sponsored ads(PPC) has nothing to do with the length of the keyword phrase. Rather, the use of a single word versus a long-tail keyword phrase has to do with how well the phrase relates to your product or service (see my response to Fergal's post below).

Another reason for not getting BAF ranked for "business" is that the search term is too broad. Someone looking for "business financing" or "business degree" would most likely not be looking for BAF(although someone here might be able to help them find a place to obtain either of those). Since they are related to a specific service, businesses that provide that service would more successful getting ranked for the related phrase. To expand on Fergal's statement, getting BAF ranked for "business advice for (insert type of person or business here)" would be more likely to bring visitors actually looking for business advice, which is what the site provides.

If you want to rank your website in search engine it is required to choose a less competitive keyword with more search count and if you will select a local keyword with city name then it will be more easy to rank.So try to select descriptive keyword for frequent ranking.
