Hey guys, I think my site has got a penalty. I think I did much better than my rivals. I gave importance to specific results to particular searches. For my normal keywords, I noticed that I am doing pretty well. But, when I checked my PageRank, it showed PR0. Strangely, it is for all the indexed pages. My concern is that my site is seen on Google with zero page rank. Have I done bad SEO? But, I don’t think I did anything that would incur wrath. I am feeling really depressed because my site has a unique home page with special content. How do I deal with this problem now?

Page Rank is not about SEO, but about getting quality backlinks.
Your site might not have enough backlinks to get into PR1 or higher. Besides, there haven't been any update in the past few months since April so you can still do some backlinking and see if your site can get a higher PR on the next update.

    harrystone00,

first of all stop this PR paranoia.:) If your website achieves to be on Google's first
page search results you'll get traffic from it and that's what really matters!

As for PR, GekiDan gave you the formula: start building backlinks to your site.
But please understand that PR isn't some sort of magic label that will bring visitors
    to your website.

This is what I'm trying to say on almost every newbie that found out that many people is looking for their site's PR.
Well, I'm kinda the same when I first knew about it. But it's all different now.

Do note that if you get something like PR9+, you are listed on a few sites that do have large amounts of traffic and that renders impressions which could become traffic. But yes, PR doesn't magically turn into traffic.

But still it's better to have some kind of pr than not to have it at all. I still think there's some kind of connection between the page rank and the traffic and the profits.

No, there's no real connection for having PR and traffic, besides those backlinks that could gain PR juice can attract traffic to your site. PR as a major sorce of traffic, a big NO.

Welcome to Business Advice Forum starlabs. Only Google know for sure, when the next update will be. If I was forced to guess I'd say around September of this year, but that is only an estimate and Google will complete the update whenever they see fit.

Your PageRank is constantly updating, but Google only ever shows that to the world every 3-4 months.

And where does Google publish that information?

According to some sources, there was a pagerank update at the end of December 2009, then on the beginning
    of April 2010.

The PR is all about the PR of the backlinks you have so don't worry if you're doing good seo probably you'll get PR in the next update.

And you shouldn't focus much on the PR. The SERPs are much more important. PR doesn't affect SERPs. In other words SERPs are updated more often than the PR so if SERPs are good PR should be good too.

I just noticed that you said PR0. If you weren't on a higher PR than that before then you haven't been penalized. If you are on PR N/A, then you've most likely been penalized.
