Any reason for you to support directory submission?

If all you do is directory submission, then no. The SE's are looking for editorial links from a variety of sites. An editorial link is a link from a phrase that occurs naturally within the flow of an article, blog entry, press release, etc. Having said that, directory links as part of a diverse linking strategy won't hurt, as long as as there are not too many.

Like patrick, I would be interested to know why you feel this way. Rather than a simple declarative sentence, a more detailed explanation would be more helpful.

This is similar to a question posed in another thread.

I would say that, from my experience, directory submissions certainly do work, but it's more about submitting to a few quality directories. Plenty of people make the mistake of looking at quantity, but quality wins every time. I look for directories that are manually edited and where they restrict entries properly. If a directory is full of low-quality websites, then I don't think that Google gives links much weight.

Directory submission helps to generate traffic as well as rank in search Engines. It is taking some time to get Approved but once it is approved it Provides Long Lasting Effect.

Submitting links to high PR directory sites is very useful. This is another way of backlinking too. Free directory sites might do the job but paid directory submissions are better since some free directory sites has a longer link review time and there is no guarantee if they will add your site in their directory.

Yes. I think, directory submission is still effective. Others may take time to get an approval but there are some that only takes a minute to get approved. As on my experience, directory submission is still helpful to my SEO.

All new site start with PR0, today a low quality websites or directories a year later could become high quality who knows? Shall we choose to make directories submission?

That's also some reference although all of them is pr0
First, look at the domain name, forget about those free domain like co.cc etc, and the domain name is proper domain like 3 letter or 4 letter domain name, not like 103ad4.com. The more proper domain name, the higher potential since the owner care about his directory

Directory link building probably won't drive any traffic but having a natural backlink profile is a must, directories are a very good way to help with this because of different PRs etc.

Sigma you make a valid, only those serious owner care about their directory. If not mistaken the value of 3 letter and 4 letter .com and .net domain can easily reach few millions.

It's only effective if you do high-quality directories. Niche directories are important too.

I don't see a problem with the thread, he is discussing something that he has in his signature but is still contributing to the thread without overly advertising.

With my experience it all determines what kind of Directory Submission you do. If it is to high ranking Directories then Yes. (DMOZ, BOTW, Yahoo). But if it is to a spam directory than it doesn't hold much weight.

If you do manual submission to really high quality directories then it's definitely worth doing. What I am against is automatical submissions and spammy methods.

Yes it still works, it may not be the most effective way but it's a great way of getting more diversity in your backlinks. Especially if you're just starting your link building or you have a relatively new website, you may have a few very high quality links but you haven't got links from diverse locations. Also normally if you have a few good hq links you'll boost the value of the low quality links, making them give more link value!

So yes, it's useful but depending on your skill set there may be better ways of using your time.
