    Hello,
    I want to do competitor analysis.
    How you do competitor analysis?
    What are the steps you are following?

    To expand I can say that, the one who is providing the same services that you provides, but their website rankings are better than yours. How you will do the analysis of your competitors?

    Competitor analysis is an appraisal of the strengths and weaknesses of present and potential competitors. This analysis offers both an invasive and self-protective strategic context to recognize opportunities and threats. You have to first know who your competitors are and check which keywords that your opponents rank for are. Once you know this then you need to put some research to study the strategies that your competitors are using. I use tools like MOZ, ahrefs to know the source from where my competitors are getting their backlinks.

    Here are several points to help to do competitor analysis:
    • Identify Your Top Ten Competitors
    • Analyze their content which they are promoting in different types like blog posts, eBooks, whitepapers, webinars, podcasts, slides, visual content, case studies etc.
    • SEO Structure (on-page and off-page optimization)
    • Their Social Media presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google +, Pinterest, YouTube etc.
    • Identify Key Areas of Improvement

    Competitor analysis will help you to know what exactly your competitor is doing, what about their marketing strategy, etc. There are so many analysis tools available for this purpose free as well as paid.

    Here is the list of some of the best tools that I have used:

    1. SEMrush
    2. Ahrefs
    3. Moz
    4. My site auditor
    5. SEO Profiler

    All are helpful for Competitor analysis, keyword, position tracking, site analysis, SEO reports, and many more. You can also try for the trial version to know more about them. Well, all these are from SEO point of view.

    For social media, analysis, you have to track social media channels of your competitors. It includes:
    1. What kind of posts they have made
    2. Posting time
    3. Visitor engagement, etc.

    While doing competitor analysis, keep in mind the following parameters to compare:
    1. Alexa rank of the website
    2.The Page Rank
    3.The Domain authority and Page authority
    4. Its presence on social media platforms. For example the number of likes and shares in Facebook and Google Plus, The number of tweets it has made and the followers.

    All the answers given are great from a technical standpoint, but one of the most overlooked things to think about with competitors is the quality of their content and the signature pieces they are ranking for which are generating them early funnel leads and things like that. By producing something that's truly 'best in class' for your niche you might not instantly win but it gives you the best chance to overhaul your competitors in the long run.

    Now you still have to do the hard work, promotion, outreach for links and so on to get your 'best in class' content out there and building authority but you have the best chance of succeeding with the best, and less links, than you have of overcoming a huge shortfall in authority etc, and producing something that's only 'similar' to what's out there already - why would Google move you up?

    Find out your top 5 competitors.
    Check for the products and services they are offering to the customers.
    Check for their on-page and off-page optimization.
    Research on how they are promoting their products and services.

    Analysis every thing including back links and try to place your links in where they did.

    To analyze the competitors you need to check the quality of work they have done to promote and ranking of their website.Check their backlinks. What effective SEO off page techniques they have used.This one is the best way to analyze your competitor and work according to them.
