    Send less data
    Optimise images
    Strip out scripts
    Minimise CSS
    Get better hosting

There are various factor because of which the page loading time is high. Use Google Page Insight tool, it will help you to know the factors, which are increasing the page loading time.

If you site has more images the it will take more time to load. Almost every eCommerce websites has this problem, better to keep less size images and go for virtual hosting of your website and optimize your code when developing the site.

That is incorrect. Many ecommerce sites load very fast. They do this because they have been set up properly.

@Jennifer Martin most of the advice Google offers from their insights tool isn't very helpful. For example, they say to not load CSS in the header. Still might speed things up by a nanosecond but the UX is awful

There could be a various reason due to that you are facing this types of problem, you need to optimize your website properly and especially for all the images. Mostly e-commerce website faces this type of problem, so to avoid this type of problem there are some great resources for analyzing your site's speed. Google page speed insight, website grader, and GT Metrix are the most popular. Both services will analyze your site and make you correct where you are falling behind.
Optimize your image, the first way to optimize your images is to scale them appropriately
    2 Browser caching
    3 Compression
    4 optimize your CSS
5 Keep your scripts below the fold

Do all the pages load slowly or just the ones with with products? Do simple pages like your "About Us" load slowly too? You might want to check the SQL queries that are getting the product data to be displayed.

If you want to decrease loading time of your page, first you have to optimize images bcz images are one of the most common bandwidth hogs on the web and also optimize your css and enable browser caching. Several plugins slow your website, and create security issues, causes crashes and additional technical problems.

Page load time is not good for SEO. To increase the page load,
    - Minimize HTTP Requests
    - Optimize images
    - Optimize CSS Delivery
    - Reduce the number of plugins you use on your site

Loading time of your website can be decreased by
    1. optimizing your images
    2. making HTML codes less messy
    3. Optimizing the CSS script of your website.

Yeah images play an important role in website loading time. But you can also apply CDN to minimise the loading time.

If you want to decrease loading time of your page, you have to optimize images, css, enable browser caching and reduce the number of plugins you use on your site. Also, there are some tools for analyzing the website speed like Google page speed insight and GT Metrix. It will help you to find the factors which are responsible for increasing the page load time.

There are different ways, you can reduce the loading speed of your website ie.
There is some free tool from which you can check the website speed ie. page speed insight, GT Metrix , Pingdom etc.

2 seconds and less than 2 seconds is the best loading speed of the websites. Website with slow loading speed has been banned by the Google itself.

Google does ban sites that load slowley. And the page does need to load in less than 2 seconds either. You can present the above the fold content in under two seconds and lazy load the rest.

In case if you have videos in your website, the loading time of your pages takes time. Kindly make sure of that and in case if yes, instead of video go for gif.

It could be the size of your images. Check to see if the thumbnails that your ecommerce website is using are separate images, or if they are just scaled down from your larger pictures. The thumbnails should be an individual, smaller image, and then when a visitor clicks on them it will bring a larger picture. Could be something to check out.

don't use flash, java and iframes. This is the only way to reduce speed of your website.
