Hmm tricky. You can view the domain whois details here:
who (dot) godaddy (dot) com/whoischeck (dot) aspx?Domain=HOOPNATION.COM

However there doesn't seem to be an email address other than HOOPNATION.COM (at) domainsbyproxy.com. So if they're not helping I'm not sure what you can do.

Except maybe go for the .co.uk ? It's available I believe. Who's the site for?

-- Blimey posting this message was hard work because I can't include links or email addresses when I have less than 2 posts... Hope it's some help anyway

well the site is going to be for mainly the USA for now, with hopes of going global. So .co.uk doesnt work for me for now.

They have had hoopnation.com now for almost 10 years and havent used it yet, im assuming they dont plan on using it.... Thanks for your reply

The fact that they are using Domains by Proxy would strongly suggest that they don't want to be contacted.

However Domains by Proxy say "We create a private email address for your domain. You tell us to forward, not forward, or filter messages for spam before forwarding" on their website. So if you send an email to [email protected] you just might get a response.

A search on Google for Hoopnation.com brings up over 300,000 results, if you look through some of these you might find a way to contact the domain owner.

Have you tried searching for other related but available names? There will be a good domain name available with the word "hoop" or "hoops" in it, it will just take patience to find it.

Is it for a basketball site?

Thanks for helping webchalkboard, now that you have more than 2 posts you should have no problem posting links. Unfortunately we had to introduce the 2 post policy to keep the spammers out.

You are right to continue to try getting that name, if it is what you really want. But I wouldn't get too hung up on a single name either. You will find something else memorable and brandable with the word "hoop" in it, if you look hard enough.

    Good luck with it.

Sounds good Hale. Do you have any concerns that people who hear about your site might forget the word "the" and simply type "hoopnation.com" into their browser?

    Good luck to you HaleTheLegend!

That's what I get when I type in the domain name. With that, I would assume that the site is under development and will be launched soon.

As to Fergal's suggestions on using other domain names, I think you should also consider that just in case you're not able to buy hoopnation.com. If it were me, my preference would be MyHoopNation. That would be a good domain name because the word "My" became popular with MySpace.

How about TheHoopNation, FreeHoopNation, BestHoopNation or OnlineHoopNation?

Well that status that is on the site has been like that for 2 years now, that I KNOW of, but they have owned the site since 2000. So im assuming its been like that for almost 10 years.

Getting a .com domain is very hard. Most of the domains are already reserved. So, you may want to try another alternative domain names or free domains names like .tk or .co.cc or try for that domain again.
