    1. Go for the "long tail" keywords, but now it's even more important. Instead of going for 2 or 3 keywords, go for 30.

    2. Be sure to mix in many nonsense anchors like 'click here', 'visit now', 'www.yoursite.com', etc. Make it more real.

    3. Make sure YOUR site has good LSI copy matching with your anchors (Use http://lsikeywords.com/index.shtml for a good starting point for your site copy. The Google Keyword Tool is another one to use). The content on your page should roughly match the links that you're pointing to it.

    4. Where possible, make your links on sites that share the same category as your site.

    5. Where it isn't possible, use the high volume/cheap links to boost up your first tier of links. This pyramid structure is even more important now.

    6. Many people see new sites ranking well. This is both because they have no bad linking history and possibly because the ranking process for categorizing the site runs periodically like PR or indexing. It's still too early to tell the long term effects of non-categorically matched links on new sites, but that should become more obvious in the coming weeks.

    7. Keyword tracking is going to be a lot tougher. Instead of watching a few keywords you'll need to watch dozens. Analytics will also play a key role here as you'll pick up LSI long tail words you didn't realize existed.

There are factors we can talk about with regards to domain age/authority/PR. But the above are obvious changes you can make NOW to impact your rankings.

    Hope this helps you. :)

It all depends on how much you can improve on your current SEO at your site. Something must have been wrong to start with if you lost out.

I would suggest starting from scratch with your title and working downwards from there (there's nothing you can do about the domain name unless you change it completely). Remove any dodgy links and rewrite your body text to incorporate your keywords. Again, without knowing how well you researched those keywords it's difficult to say, but maybe more relevant keywords and keyphrases are needed. Did you have too many keywords that looked unnatural to the robots?

Make sure you get your best keywords in the title, description, meta tags and page text. Robots see your site as a series of text blocks, starting with the domain name and working downwards from there, and a well structured site will improve your rankings as well.

build your links properly is probably the way to avoid the penguin. if your links aren't bought and seems natural, you won't be penalized

signature link still work for ranking, but it keep drop value. The penguin update is focus on 2 major thing.

    1. Link from similar niche
    2. Balance usage of anchor txt not too focus on certain keywords, must be mix around. Link like www.example.com, get most credit.

I think for sigs on forum sites, making it more like a real signature type would make it more effective, like this one:

    *Business name/Brand*
    *Owner name*
    *Business location*
    *Contact number*
    *Contact Email*
    *Brief business description*

And then link or anchor any of those going to your main website or you can actually include the domain of your website into it. Looks more professional for Google at least you did not target exactly your keywords.

More we can get on the Penguin the better it will be for everyone. Thanks for the information that has been provided so far. One other important thing it to make sure you dont copy exact content from one site to another.

That's actually basic. To further elaborate your "duplication" stuff, just make sure that you don't have any duplicate content within and outside your website.

"According to Lisa", it is best to practice unique content and not much care with link building. This was her strategy from the start and for that reason she wasn't affected much with any google updates. If you have because you were making a massive links you could use the disavow by google.

As many websites affect by Google's Penguin update if you want to regain your keyword ranking.
    1. Diversify your keywords for one targeted page.
    2. remove backlinks which are not relevant.
    3. Make new backlnks as they looks natural to Google.
    4. Use High PR quality websites to make backlinks.
