    TimB:

If you recall, I had sent you a PM about creating lists, and not elaborating on the items in the list. Since you chose to ignore my advice, I will show you how it is done:

    1. Create relevant content - Since the Penguin update, Google is now putting more emphasis on quality content, which also makes your website more relevant to the searcher. This not only helps your SEO, but could also result in more conversions as well.
    2. Select a target niche - Concentrating on a target niche will help narrow down the keywords you pursue, and will make your pages relevant to a single subject, making it easier for the search engines to determine whether your website fits your keywords.
    3. Carefully research keywords - This is especially important if you sell a product or service. You want to pursue keywords that convert well, not just keywords with high traffic. You may even find that keywords with lower traffic sometimes convert better than some high traffic ones.
    4. Stick to SEO-friendly URLs - This does not mean that your URL must match the keyword phrase, called an Exact Match Domain (EMD). It does mean using URLs that are short and to the point.
    5. SE tags and Meta descriptions - Some may discount these, as they may not play as important a part in rankings as they once did. But, in some cases, like the Title Tag and Description Meta Tag, these can be used by the Search engies in your listing, and help the searcher determine how relevant your website is to their search.
    6. Don't forget image attributes - The ALT tag for images is text that shows up when an image cannot be displayed, and can also be used to add keywords for the search engines to find, increasing the relevancy of your website.
    7. Build internal and external links - For internal links, you also want to pay attention to your linking structure - how easy is it to get from one point to another. Of course, the more relevant, quality links you can have externally, the better your chances of ranking higher.
    8. Enable Social Media Sharing - Social Media is becoming much more important for both linking and increasing traffic to your website.
    9. Avoid using Flash and images as text - Although the search engines may in some cases be getting better at reading Flash, it should still be avoided when possible. Relevant content is much better than making your website look "cool" for both the search engines and the searchers. And, of course, images can't be "read" the way content can.

You see how much more informative and helpful that is? You're welcome!

Joseph, great advice for anyone who wants to improve there on-page SEO. The problem is many fail to recognize the value of the points you made, and just post content thinking that's all they need for good SEO.
I do agree that images can't be read, but with the right "Alt tag" and "Title tag" that are relevant to the content, it does help total on-page SEO.

Joe's example of a good list should be mandatory reading for anyone posting so-called 'useful tips.' It is easy to cut and paste a list from somewhere, but a bare list rarely adds significant value to the readers of this forum. Take some time and add some useful commentary as in Joe's example. If you really want to be helpful, and not just boost your post count, taking a few extra minutes to explain to a reader the significance of the listed items is essential.

There are a lot of things to follow in the op-page. Also content plays an important role for the optimization as per the new Google panda update.

Selecting the right keyword and developing link are very vital. Meta optimization and internal linking are essential for any website.
