As Sahil has said, it really depends on how, what, and where you're trying to place your ads. I can be of further assistance if you could specify a few of those things. I'm assuming you mean on your site?

More than likely you'll need to add the html coding to it, unless it is already a premade template.
The normal coding for adding a picture link, which is also used for picture ads is <a href="Ad's Site"><img src="Image URL"></img></a> I believe that is the correct format.

Also, if you're relating to AdSense ads, you can log into your Google Adsense account @ http://www.google.com/adsense , or create an account if you don't have one yet, and then you can go through their step by step process in making an ad unit for your site. In this, you can pick the amount of ads, the size, the colors, the text, and a few other things and when you're done it will generate a code for to place into your site.

As I said above, if you need further assistance, please feel free to ask. But if you could clarify your question a bit more then we will also be able to assist you better.
