    I'm sure you're gonna tell me - A LOT!!
The thing is - there are so many successful blogs out there the put zero emphasis on design.

I agree with AJKpeter’s Answer. Blog is a source of information where reader comes to upgrade their knowledge or get necessary information. Hence, Design doesn’t matter on the information blog. Only navigation is a matter on information blog.

Hmm, in some ways, design also give an impact on how many your visitors are going to be, since most of the users also look for a website that has easier navigation and looks, If they can't see that, it is more likely that they will just exit your site easily..

Yes, website design is one of the most important aspect for any online website for business. You can consider it by yourself by asking one simple question to yourself, will you like to browse or buy from a badly designed website? I do not think that I will be interested in any badly designed website.

I believe that web design is very important; however, it is the combination of both excellent content and the aesthetic design that enable a website to truly be successful. The way a site is laid out can emphasis the content. In addition, web design is not limited to simple aesthetics, it can be as complex as the human interactive design element. In other words, how a user interacts with the site can have a tremendous effect. Imagine going to a website and being unable to find the content that you are looking for?

Good design makes the website seem more trustworthy and secure, and hence make people feel more comfortable spending money on it. Not only that, when your site looks good, people are more likely to take you seriously because they can see that you have put in a lot of time and money into it.

A good web design does not necessarily mean a tidy looking website. In most of the cases it is about functionality, in my opinion and the expectations the audience has from it.

For example, too many options on a page will make the visitor navigate away from it, eventually, even if the graphics are great.

A marketer wants the design to help with conversions and this means playing around with the elements until it gets the most of it. A test showed several months ago that placing a "Join Now!" button, for example, on top of a video on a landing page can increase the CTR by 15% to 25% in some cases. For a web designer this would brake all the rules, but the results should be the ones to dictate those rules.

The blog writers want the audience to read their articles to the end so there are tricks here, as well. For example, adding an image every few paragraphs, aligned once to the left, next to the right again and again, keeps the audience reading throughout long content.

When we think that a not very well looking blog is successful, we should consider the expectations its readers have from there. If the graphics are not great it is obvious that the functionality and the way that the information is structured / presented keeps them there.

It depends on what you are selling or promoting. The design speaks volumes to a potential client. I can't imagine where some clients would be without the redesign of their site, if it was stripped down to bare bones from what their design is now.

There are successful blogs without design emphasis, yes. The focus is then on their marketing, outreach, and content instead of design. But, the design can heighten the viewer's experience and completely sell them on the blog, product, or service offering.
