SEO experts say if a website is designed with responsive web design, then that website could easily get a good result in the search engines and is user friendly to the search engines. How does Responsive Web Design help to make the website user friendly to the search engines?

I've been wondering this myself. We have a web site the looks fine on a mobile device, but responsiveness does come up often in SEO conversations

Google has announced officially that Responsive Web Design is its preferred option for mobile sites for one very simple reason:

All screen sizes are viewable from the same URL and same source code.

The load on search servers when server-side redirection scripts detect smaller screen sizes and redirect viewers to alternate, mobile optimized sites is a serious problem for all search engines.

So what's happening is that Google et al are routinely ignoring mobile sites that require screen size detection and redirection scripts.

The question needs more clarification though because you originally asked user friendly but in the actual question, there are actually 2 questions.

For being user-friendly then yes. The website obviously is more user-friendly since it is easier to navigate.

For being better in search results then no. There is no difference between a mobile-ready site vs a non-mobile ready site for search engine results ASSUMING both have exactly the same hosting settings (same site loading speed, same domains show the homepage as results, same everything).

As for what ProfitClinic mentioned, obviously, if one of the two sites has a responsive web design AND showing the same URL from the same source code then that obviously is a better result for GOogle's algo (assuming the opposition has the opposite: non responsive, different URL from different source code).

In seo perspective website should be more lighter needed so that can be load fast .. and loading time reduced so it is recommended that to not use flash and more heavy content in the website so that it should load fast..

Responsive design is purely for usability not search engines. However, if a site loads fast on a mobile device then google could place it more favourably in the results.

Today SEO has gone pretty advanced. Search engines are looking for seo to be done natural. And thus responsive websites do have a positive impact in terms of the SEO because it looks natural.

Responsive design can effective for both users and search engines. Google recommended responsive web design because of the one URL that can make it crawl more efficiently. Mobile devices have a great user-experience in searches so that's why Google prefers responsive design.

It's not just about the one URL for all screen sizes, Grace. The added load on Google's search servers from device detection and redirection scripts — and having to spider at least two sites across sub-domains — has become onerous for the search engine, hence their declaration in favour of Responsive Web Design (and ignoring of mobile sites requiring device detection and redirection scripts).

There are other solutions, some of them better for site visitors, which don't require device detection scripts

@ProfitClinic does google class it as duplicate content if you have a mobile and desktop version of your site containing the same content?

I'm not sure why you'd have the same content on both, to be honest. Ideally, they serve different purposes.

This is one of the vulnerabilities of responsive web design: mobile users — at least in most developed countries — tend to be looking for immediate information that's short and to the point. Most want to take action within hours, based on what they find. They're not really interested in exploring lots of content on large web sites.

Considering the reality that a large percentage of mobile sites — especially those on sub-domains that require special device detection and redirection scripts — are simply not being indexed or found in searched, I don't see much of a likelihood of you have issues with duplicate content.

But that's only if you're approaching the dichotomy presented by mobile site creation intelligently.

Having a responsive design for businesses is a must because of the speedily amplifying smartphone and tablet dependency amidst the customers and with this SEO processes and search engines have gone extremely tough on businesses. Businesses require coping-up with the search engine updates to stay into business. Thanks!!

It's just because nowadays people are more active in mobile surfing & in mobile surfing speed is an issue to most of the users ( Website loading time on mobile). If by chance a person visited in your website through mobile & finds that it will take lot of time to load, then he usually goes back not and not waited to unto reload fully. Just because of this it will increase bounce rate of a website. So, that's why you need responsive website which will load in mobile fast & will not create bounce rate at all.

**** Responsive website is used actually to reduce the bounce rate of website from mobile user*****

I hope this will help you...

With the increasing use of smartphones and tablets, search engines have realised that searchers are no longer limited to desktop and laptops only. They have switched to a more convenient and portable medium like phones to access the internet. Search engines always want that sites with better user experience should rank higher in SERP to provide a better result for the end-user. This is why search engines are now considering responsiveness of a website as a crucial factor in ranking it.

Increasing with smartphone users Google Added smartphone status in webmaster tool. According to Google Smartphone (Mobile) guidelines if you want good visitors on your site then your site should be responsive for mobile. Because of that visitor comfortable with your site then come again & again to visit.

A responsive web design will not help you in increasing search engine rank. A responsive web design is significant for mobile users so that your website can reach more people with different mobile devices.
