Excessive link exchange is a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines, so there is no need to test the effect. Your website will be buried in the rankings, and it will not rise unless you create links properly. Other types of link schemes to be avoided can be found here.

What exactly is Amazon doing? I don't see anything on their Home Page that looks like a link exchange. A little more detail about what you are seeing, and why you believe Amazon is using link exchange, would be helpful.

Amazon get 41,300,000 pages indexed, and each page have same bottom with those links( products page), let 's say there are only half of them can be a backlinks with anchor text, so that means those links show on amazon can get around 20,000,000 backlinks from Amazon!, I try our company's two site, So, you get 400 more backlinks easily, required homepage because header and bottom come with all the off page almost. I think Google will punished depends on the link exchange quantity. , So, I will only do 5-10 relative links for test.
Those are the links at Amazon home page Bottom: ( maybe need to call Reciprocal link? )

I took a look at the links you were referring to on an Amazon product page, and if you take another look you will see AmazonFresh, AmazonLocal, AmazonSupply, Amazon Web Services, and Kindle Direct Publishing. Kindle is actually an Amazon Product, and the others with the word Amazon as part of their name are owned by Amazon. Perhaps the others are owned by, or affiliated with Amazon as well. All they are doing is linking to other companies they own and/or are affiliated with. So, to answer an earlier question, yes, they could be doing this to encourage(transfer, in your words) traffic to the other sites.
If you own more than one company, you can also do the same. I am a little confused though. You said

If you have two sites, you would only have one link on each site to the other. How does that equate to 400 links? For the same reason, you cannot try 5 - 10 links because you would only have two sites that link to each other. More than that would be "excessive link exchange", which is a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines
Finally, I don't understand what you mean by "required homepage because header and bottom come with all the off page almost". Could you explain this?
