Another quick question for you all.

Have you ever paid for a website design? If so, (and you don't mind saying), how much?

I once paid £70 for a professional design, but since then I've learnt to design websites myself, so I don't think I'd pay out that kind of money again for one.

Was it particularly expensive if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, I think paying for a website is useless when you actually known how to do it. :) But here in my country people still pay high amount of money for just a website. I have really witnessed it and the cost is very high.

For me, I have never paid for a website. But I spent a lot of money buying domains which I never used.

The most I have ever paid is $55 for a premium WP theme, well worth the money.

Personally I would never buy a premium theme, or also known as a theme premade that sells for a preset price. If I were to buy a theme ever, I would dish out slightly more for a custom theme, or one catered to my site's needs. However, as a amateur web designer myself I can cater to these needs myself. The coding is the difficult part. Typically I could get someone I know to help me out with it for $20 max.

I haven't but was thinking about doing so, as the type of website in mind is quite a bit beyond my own skills or the usual offers on most hosting.

Or could anyone recommend a hosting service covering at least the following, membership features, ecommerce, blogging & forum (members only and public), chatting, file/photo/video sharing (family/friends and public), webinars, exercises progress tracking, without needing much scripting?

If you are paying to web designers, in return you get a website. Web designers work hard to design a website according to your choice. If you can design your website that is good. You can save money and utilise your skill to design a website.

Barely ever will I buy one as I can make my own or customize an existing one to my liking.

Although I have made a couple for people and charged them $100 each.

Yes, I paid once for a landing page (around $100, if I remember well). Pretty expensive for a single HTML page, no?

Like some people before, I can't imagine buying a template/website design as long as I can create it by myself ;)

Basic websites are easy to make even if you have very little knowledge of building one as pre made templates helps alot and most are free to download so no need pay.

Yes, I have paid for my website designing but is is very much costly. Cost depends on your website that whether it is easy and tricky to design, so as per your content and requirement the cost is decided. The best thing is that you can learn web designing from online tutorials which is not hard to learn and design at your own.
