Bing announces that they deliver better search results for its users. A threat to Google, since Bing would use 500 Million Facebook users niche data to enhance its search results. Bing announced that with this update it would work more like a social search engine.

What do you think? Can this be really a threat to Google? Can results dedicated to social search make a major difference in the internet space, after considering the fact that Facebook recently outperformed Google?

    Thank you for responding.

Using Like buttons on their search results could give Bing a good leg up to compete with Google and it will increase the number of users and the frequency with which they use Bing. However, it won't win me over, I much prefer Google to Bing and don't plan on moving any time soon.

This is not new to me since I regularly saw some search results done using Bing when I made a few searches using Facebook.
And same with Fergal, with slow indexing ability of BING, I will still prefer using Google over it.

I agree with both of you! Google is really huge and a lovable bot to almost every corner of the world!
Perhaps, I am not sure what Bing & Facebook together can possibly conclude?

    Hi
I feel that the recent merger of Bing and Yahoo for USA and Canada markets, will pose as threat to Google market share in those countries.

I agree with your point. This will cause a severe effect to Google's market share. However, this might not affect Google immediately, but probably can make a damage in a long term, if Google doesn't comes up with something innovative & dramatic.

I actually like Bing a lot. It may be because I'm on page 1 of Bing for my target keyword phrase yet I'm still on page 2 of Google! I still use Google though because I've used it for so long.

It will be difficult to outperform Google because Google simply offers so many additional tools, all in one place. Difficult, but certainly not impossible. A few years back MySpace was bigger than Facebook and look what happened there. Hard to say.

This is really not that unusual. We have found quite a few times that our clients have ranked on less popular search engines before Google, simply because it is easier to do. If you keep on marketing your site, and ramp up your marketing efforts, you will reach page 1 of Google too.

I don't think that it can be a threat for google.Google has a huge user base and its consistency and relevance is well known to every one.

Due to Facebook being known beyond the search engine, it does pose as a threat to Google, as Google is a search engine and not everything requires a search engine. If you bookmark a site, you are not using the search engine to find that site, rather social networking/bookmarking or web browser bookmarks.

i saw bing advertisements. they are really going hardcore with advertising now and some are really creative. They even followed Yahoo's success with their own "BING!" jingle
