We did... most of our website was deindex by google just like many other sites. Google already admitted their mistakes and said to be working on solution to resolve this issues.

That's real bad. Have you conduct audits on your site and saw some possible reasons (based on the updates from penguin as well) on why your website has been deindexed? Have you tried submitting it for reconsideration to google?

I've seen subtle changes in several sites. In most cases, these were drops in rank in the SERPS (often in favor of megasites like Wikipedia and the IRS that are relevant but not directly on point).

Unfortunately, even dropping from #2 to #4 in the SERPS can have a huge effect on traffic.

    Yes, a HUUUUGE effect.

It's starting to feel that Google doesn't know what they are doing anymore. From the latest Penguin update, I'm starting to feel like everything they do at this point is part of an experiment.

It does seem that Google is constantly in experimentation mode. Which only tells you again that you simply cannot rely on Google for your entire business. You have to diversify.

It's part of their experiment - and I think they know what they are doing - it's juts us who doesn't know exactly what are they up to. Of course, it's always about low-quality sites, spam links, etc etc.
Hmm I just thought that this could be more like Google cleaning up their whole database in a gradual period of time which seems to hugely affect sites whom we all know - are quality sites.

    Regards,
    Mark T

It's mostly because they want to deindex all spammy websites and those websites linking to them are affected. So when a website lost it's rankings and authority basically the ones linking to it will also suffer.

Very true Haley. But sometimes people look at the results and feel Google hasn't done a very good job of what they claim to be trying to do. and they wonder about all of Google's conflicting interests.

I lost a lot of indexed pages, backlinks and went down in PR.
