The latest update from Google has stirred many businesses...some have lost huge traffic. Some remained unaffected while YouTube, its own firm, gained in standing.

In all this, what Panda 2.5 holds for small and new businesses? There has been some concern with the present style of back links creation, old content's irrelevance etc. Is the panic justified?

I think it would be beneficial if you shared your site so we could give you some better insight. My guess is that the content on your site is very thin and needs work.

Google Panda is just filtering sites that do not deserved to have a high search engine ranking.

Sites with good quality content have nothing to worry about.Sites with duplicate content are the major losers in this update.

No matter how small or big your business is, the Panda can hit you real bad if you are facing these scenarios:
    - you have too many inbound links from low quality sites
    - you over optimized keywords
    - you have duplicate content

Google uses algorithms and automated systems to evaluate site quality. You think because you have a small or a new business that it's slapping you too hard. However, even legitimate sites like EzineArticlesandeHow have had their share of knockdowns by the Panda Update in the past. In October 2011, press release distribution sites like PRNEwsWire and Business Wire, popular sites like TheNextWeb and Today.com have also been hit by the update. There is no clear trend/reason as to why these sites may been impacted- not because of what kind of sites they are, what page or content; Google are not really into sharing the details why these legit sites are hit. And doesn’t it make you wonder why in this update; the winners are Google sites like YouTube, Android.com and AOL? (I know I am. :) )

Panic on the Panda Update will do you no good especially now that the update happens monthly. I can't imagine what a monthly panic attack will do to me. :D
We are very fortunate that ours sites have gained rankings on certain keywords because we have regularly published high quality content that people like to read. And of course Google knows that by tracking what articles and sites get clicked the most. But it’s not only on the Search results, but very possibly on sites with their codes on it, such as Adsense and Google Analytics.

With that said, focus on how you can avoid getting hit by the Panda instead.

If you are building links from high quality sites and use only original content, you will have little to worry about. Google loves sites with original, fresh and relevant content, a lot of them. And they see sites with original and regularly updated content as high quality sites. And it would be best to always create relevant content and associate only with high quality sites. Always check on your site, content and linked sites regularly. And monitor things regularly, too because while we know that the Panda updates are monthly now, we really don't know the exact date that it does happen.

    Hello Friends,

Google has confirmed that the latest iteration of its Panda algorithm update is live. Based on our tracking of the algorithm changes, this is Panda Update 2.5.
Google declined to share any specifics about what types of sites, pages or content this update targeted, instead only sharing the company’s default statement:
We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users. This most recent update is one of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.

    Thanks

Google Panda spam your site if your site have a duplicate content. So submit only original article and improve your ranking in search engine.
    It works like a filter....

It is good for Google Panda to penalty those copy cat site, so that reader can recognize original content and effort. Add more fresh quality content will be help to escape from penalty
