So is it a good idea to go for a brandable domain over a keyword domain when it comes to SEO?
From what I have seen domains don't really matter in the long run as long as people can remember it.

If you are building a website related to some niche then choose a keyword related domain. If you are making a blog to write about everything then picking a brandable domain name, pick a domain name which is easier to remember.

My opinion is that the best domains names are short memorable dot com domains. They are easiest to remember, the easiest domains to gain popularity via word of mouth and the most likely to get type in traffic.

i agree with you that short url makes a big different for you.But backlinking also play an important role for recognition.Without backlinking it's very difficult to get targeted audience.

I have to agree with Fergal, but is using made up words a bad thing?

Domain name must be related to the product or business theme, and keywords are related to the domain for fast ranking.

True, but does it matter if you can build up your brand? There are several sites out there that have brandable domains over keyword domains that are big sites.

It depends on the words. If the word is short, memorable and easy to spell it can be great. However, if the word is difficult to remember and spell, it would make it very difficult to promote and grow your website or business.

If you look at the busiest sites on the web as listed at http://www.alexa.com/topsites, you will see that quite a few of their domain names are made from made up words, or at least words that were not in common usage at the time the site was launched.

Ya, a good example would be twitter.
I prefer to buy made-up words as you have less chance of copyright infringement.
Pronounceable is another factor. It should be easy to pronounce else you will lose a lot of traffic from people referring them.

What most important is on how build your brand. People remember you from your content not from your domain name.

Yeas it is always good to give branding to your site with an established brand domain. You can give brand to your site by promoting internal pages in proper way.

    Thank you

I have to agree with Renegadeleader.
As long as the domain isn't 34 characters long and filled with x,y,and z's then it wont matter much.
